Bosch, Siemens or Miele washing machine - are you happy with yours?

I'll have to kiss my (3yr old) AEG goodbye and resign myself to getting a new machine. Do you have a Bosch, Siemens or Miele (reputedly the're very good) and if so are you happy with it?

My Miele is fantastic and their customer service is equally fantastic.

EldonAve · 03/02/2010 12:11

Happy with my Bosch

maggiethecat · 03/02/2010 12:14

Heard about Miele 10 yr warranty - how cool is that? My Miele hoover is almost 10 yrs old and is just starting to show signs of age.

love our bosch w/m

Miele's 10 year warranty only comes with their more expensive models. If you get a cheaper one (as I did) you'll have to make do with a 5 year one. But cheaper or not, my Miele is beautiful. Nearly three years on I still stroke it every time I walk past it. We have a fabulous relationship .

maggiethecat · 03/02/2010 15:19

Jeee, if I were your dh I would be very worried...

LOL maggie - my DH is even sadder than I am. We've just bought (6 months ago) a new Bosch dishwasher - couldn't afford the Miele at the time and he has now, in all seriousness, suggested selling the Bosch one and getting a new Miele one - he likes the cutlery holders in the ceiling!!!

DorotheaPlenticlew · 04/02/2010 08:44

maggie, our Miele is the "Prestige Plus 6" (that's what's written on the front anyway) - I did use the Which? site to review our options before buying and it was the second from the top on their list of Best Buys.

It is not the cheapest -- it was just under £700. But we'd lived with a crappy machine for so long, I just wanted a good one for a change, and people say the typical lifespan of a Miele is 20 years so that swung it. If we ever sell this bloody flat we are taking the machine with us, no question!

The swankiest thing about it IMO is that in the first 10 mins of washing a load, it automatically senses how much water the load is absorbing (DP was like "It's alive!") and adjusts the cycle length accordingly. So a cottons wash that would be 2 hours long if machine was full, becomes considerably quicker -- maybe an hour and a quarter or even an hour. There is a little display to tell you how long is left. This is such a treat when I'd been used to a machine that took 2.5 hours to do even a small load of baby essentials. I think it may help keep a lid on energy bills too (hopefully).

Also, it is highly amusing to me that the fastest spin cycle is about 1/4 as loud as the crazy bone-shaking spin on our old machine. It had not even occurred to me that this might be the case -- makes a nice change.

It is a MASSIVELY heavy machine though seems to be solid metal delivery guys were cursing it as we are on the top floor.

Am aware I sound like a Miele advert, sorry, I promise I'm not. Our dryer is a Siemens and I wouldn't change that either

We have a Bosch. It's good. We've had it for five or six years: and it's on nearly every day.

thisisyesterday · 04/02/2010 20:39

i have a bosch, one of the cheaper ones (classixx range) and love it.

feedthegoat · 04/02/2010 20:48

I've got a Bosch and really like it. The digital display panel did develop a fault very early on (you couldn't change the temp and most programmes are set to 60) but Bosch customer service were excellent and I have no complaints. It has a large drum and takes an 8kg load too which I find useful

Heathcliffscathy · 04/02/2010 20:49

miele, great. we went for 600 quid one and it annoyingly doesn't have a buzzer when finished...but apart from that is perfect. handwashes excellently, isn't loud and noisy, really really good.

tibni · 04/02/2010 20:53

I have a siemens - with a 10 year guarentee and it is great. I recently bought a siemens dishwasher when my old one broke down because I was so pleased with the washer.

Oscy · 04/02/2010 20:59

Miele all the way. Anything which can "handwash" better than me (which would be not very difficult at all) deserves to be loved in my house imo. I can't even hear it when it spins.

maggiethecat · 04/02/2010 23:30

Dorothea, I looked up the Prestige plus on Which and found that it could be had for 650 pounds but then discovered that it does not have delayed start. It seems that a fair few of the Miele models dont have this feature. Now, I don't know if it's bcos I've got used to using the timer but I'm thinking that it would be hard to give up that convenience. The review tho said that it washes really well and maybe that's worth more than be able to time my start.....

Ah, see, I have never had a machine with delayed start so I wasn't really bothered

There are lots of good options out there & I hope you find the perfect one!

thehillsarealive · 18/02/2010 12:30

i LOVE my Miele washing machine, the quick wash is super quick but it is more of a daily wash to freshen items rather than clean them. Most things get done on the 30 degrees and come out clean.

PrettyCandles · 18/02/2010 12:39

We've had both Miele and Bosch, and are very pleased with both. The only reason we replaced the Bosch is that it is a top-loader, and when we moved house we needed a front-loader. The Bosch is still in the garage - we shan't get rid of it because we hope to build a utility room extension, and can tghen use either or both machines.

One thing I particularly like about our Miele is that it weighs the laundry as you load it, and tells you when the machine is full. It also tells you how much detergent to use, which is good for me as I have very sensitive skin and want to use the minimum detergent.

It's perhaps a little too clever, you can't always modify the programs (eg can have a pre-wash with Cottons programme, but not with Easy-Care). Also, it is a washer-drier, and while the washing is excellent the drying is not as good and the clothes can come out very creased.

Which consider Bosch and Miele to be the top for reliabity. Service has been excellent, too.

haggisaggis · 18/02/2010 13:54

We have a Bosch - about 18 months old. It washes well but what really bugs me is taht if clothes are unevenly balanced it won't spin. ie if you stick a bath mat in it you also have to put in some heavy towels or it refuses to spin.
