Hello Lexie, as Our Lady says definately go on an Aga day in the life before splashing out, I went on a vegetarian demonstration day, it was great, the chef kept saying things like 'and if you want a bit more taste you can always add some bacon...' Seeing a proper chef cooking and explaining stuff was really inspirational and I picked up loads of tips. I think I had to pay £15 for the day including the superb lunch but they give you 25% off cookshop products so well worth it if your kitting yourself out.
I have the Aga stacking pans, a toaster and a brilliant deep & wide frying pan thing that the handle comes off to go in the oven.
I do cook on the Heritage like an Aga ie. start veg off on top then transfer to bottom of top oven - one advantage being that all the steam & smoke goes out the vent and not into the house so we have n't got an extractor fan. When I'm being lazy/bit disorganised or watching my poor mother cook you find that you have the lids up a lot more but even then the oven temp has n't dropped.
The grill certainly works - sometimes a little too well and because it vents outside you don't smell anything burning. My mil always forgets to cover things with foil or use a cold shelf and has now got a reputation as a 'bad cooker'
I never understood the Aga 'heart of the home' thing and resisted it quite heavily, now I've got it I really use it and I really was no domestic goddess before. I made chelsea buns yesterday, my own bread every other day and when we got back from school today popcorn just because it's cold & miserable today. Jacket spuds tonight and theres a merigue in the bottom oven. I'm , & at myself writing all this.
