Which sort of mattress to buy...

Having tried a few DH and I were keen to buy a combination one with pocket springs and 50mm of memory foam over the top.

Now my sister says they're no good and that the springs will wear through the foam and we'll be able to feel them - so she's heard anyway. Anyone else had this experience??

well they probably will do eventually, just like when a good quality sprung mattress reaches the end of it's useful life.

I've just bought a new mattress and after doing quite a lot of research ended up not going for anything memory foam or latex because of the overheating factor. They are not good if you are warm bodied sleepers (aka sweaty buggers like my DH), so I have gone for a v good quality sprung one instead (similar to the one we had before).

I should think that so long as you are buying a decent quality mattress that you should get a good 8-10 years out of it before you start to feel any springs poking through. It is recommended that you replace you mattress after 10yrs anyway as it loses its support - pus all the bodily fluids and dead skin it has soaked up over the years.... .

Thanks for that. We are relatively sweaty bettys but the foam combo ones felt firmer which we liked. I didn't like the all foam ones though - they just felt too unhygienic!

I like a firm bed too.

btw, I have just spotted by typo on mt first post..... I meant 'plus' not pus!!! There is no pus in my mattress (at least I don;t think there is anyway!)

Oh yummy! Thanks for clarifying!
