Not sure where this should go but am I the only person who absolutely loves lavender.

I've got some swishing round in my water swishy thing (air purifier?) and I'm so close to slipping into a lavender coma haha

I love lavender.
Years ago I shared a student house with a girl who really couldn't bear the smell of it.
SInce I have had my own house I have been able to indulge in lots of lovely lavender scents.

I'm thinking of devoting a whole flowerbed to different types in the garden.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 29/01/2010 00:21

Ooh I love it too!

Champneys do a pillow mist in lavender, it is wonderful!

juneybean · 29/01/2010 00:22

Ohhh I love champneys stuff so I will have a look out for that.

The only thing I cannot abide is incense sticks, the smokeyness just gives me headaches.

I love it too.....couldn't live without it.
I had a lavender tea the other week...mmmmmmm!

kittycatty · 29/01/2010 13:52

Me too, love the smell but my kids hate it

SparkyToo · 29/01/2010 18:51

I used to hate it but now really love it. I spend a fortune on buying lavender for the garden, only for it to die and not return the following year - really annoying, but I think I've learnt my lesson now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2010 18:54

I adore it, am rather addicted. The champneys stuff is amazing. I like tisserand just for vaguely sprinkling about the place.

GentleOtter · 29/01/2010 18:56

I love it.

Lavender water gets sprayed over the ironing and it is lovely (the flower heads) added to lemon marmalade.

Does anyone else get wildly romantic notions to run through the huge lavender fields in France?

choufleur · 29/01/2010 18:57

i'm not allowed to buy anymore lavender plants. DH says there isn't enough room left. different types smell slightly differently - it's lovely in teh summer just to brush past them

shallishanti · 29/01/2010 18:58

I had some lavender cheese once, it was nice

bluebump · 29/01/2010 19:00

Ooh yes lavender is lovely stuff, we have a couple of bushes of it in the garden.

NorbertDentressangle · 29/01/2010 19:00

I love it too, in fact our whole family loves it.

I've got quite a few lavenders in the garden, including a lavender hedge that was really impressive last year.

I harvest it and even made lavender bags that we have dotted around the house. The DC's each have one in their bed and give it a squeeze at bedtime to 'help them sleep'.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 29/01/2010 19:11

What type of lavendar is your hedge NorbertDentressangle?

ruhavingalarf · 29/01/2010 19:13

I live very near here

bliss during Wimbledon fortnight - whole fields of it

check out the lavender products

NorbertDentressangle · 29/01/2010 19:16

I haven't a clue what types I'm afraid -all I know is that there are 2 different sorts (one is a white flower), from 2 different garden centres.

They were just so amazing -about 80cm from centre of plant to tip of heads in every direction, and the most wonderful fragrance.

They'll probably be rubbish this year

Now you see, as much as I love lavender (the plant, the fragrance of the flower heads/extracted oil etc) I cannot imagine eating or drinking it!

Does it taste like it smells IYSWIM?

Oh lavender is lovely! I live in Norfolk near to Norfolk Lavender; they do the most gorgeous lavender jam - it's strawberry but with lavender added. I had it on lavender scones - yep they just threw the flowers in there with the flour - they were lovely too but a bit too much with the jam! Nice just with butter.

I make lavender tea - Chamomile teabags but I put two sprigs of lavender in the cup too, swish them around a bit while the tea's brewing.

My very good friend is horribly allergic to lavender. One good whiff and she hits the floor like a ton of bricks. Just this side of needing an epipen. So I can't have ANY lavender smellies in my house .

lisianthus · 01/02/2010 19:20

I love lavender too. Shallishanti - was the lavender cheese you mentioned Katy's Lavender? I tried some a couple of times from the cheese place in Greenwich and it was awesome, but I don't know where else to get it.

The nicest cream tea I ever had was in Yorkshire and it involved blueberry and lavender jam with the scones.
