Getting (a lot of) Tippex out of a school blazer - any tips please?

Apparently a classmate's Tippex pen exploded over dd's blazer

I'm inclined to brush it then bung it in the washing machine, but wonder if I ought to be trying some kind of solvent before the wash.

Any ideas welcome!

contact the makers for advice - you may find they make a solvent suitable for use on clothes. Pretty sure it doesn't just come out in the wash.

Tippex doesn't wash out. My dd2 managed to get a few spots of tippex on her pinafore, it splattered a bit as she brought the brush out of the bottle, and it hasn't washed out. Luckily it's only a few small spots and you hardly notice them unless you really look but they won't wash away and i've washed the pinafore loads of times.

Maybe a dry cleaners would be able to remove it, but if you wash it I think that sets the stain and then you have no chance of removing it.

The first thing that comes to mind is tippex thinner. You could also google stain devils and see if they do one.

I think I would brush off as much as possible, then apply some thinner solution and sponge gently with warm water and ordinary soap.

Is it the sort of blazer you can wash?

Definitely check the lael, and only use warm water and soap, to begin with. Sometimes washing powders do more harm than good, and hot water "sets" the stain.

Thanks, everyone. I'll try thinner, and asking Tippex if necessary. I was aslo afraid that washing might set the stain.

Oh dear, thinner doesn't work...

Try neat vinegar - it's amazing what it'll shift (but it stinks to high heaven)

If the vinegar doesn't work your best bet is taking it a dry cleaners. They will have all the right solvents.

Thanks, I've tried everything suggested on the internet now (!!!) and have had enough. It has mostly gone, just some pale patches left on the lapel, so I'm going to bung it in the washing machine with some Vanish and hope for the best.

If necessary, it can be the spare blazer and I'll have to buy another one.
