we had a cat litter incident a few weeks ago and as i am pg dh insisted on dealing with it.

instead of doing the sensible thing, using a dust pan and brush, he used the dyson to suck up all the pissy litter.

i've cleaned the filter, which now smells lovely but whenever i use the hoover it stinks up the whole house with a lovely catty urine smell.

i tried spraying oust up the pipe and in the tank bit and a fat lot of good that did.

mum suggested pouring a bleach solution into it but i think i will save that as a last ditch attempt before it goes in the bin.

any suggestions to get rid of the smell that won't destroy my hoover?

I took mine to bits and did what your mum suggested to all the non electrical bits.

Try putting a bit of cotton wool with tea tree oil dabbed on it into the tank part.

Are there any other filters in a different part of the hoover, which you could try cleaning or replacing?

i'll give the bleach a go tomorrow then, or rather dh will as its his fault!

Take as much of it apart as you can, the manual should help you here, wash everything that you can with hot soapy water (or the bleach),leave to dry.

Wash filter/s thoroughly leave to dry

Buy a cardboard car air freshener and put it in the little holder that you put the filter in then put the filter back so it sits ontop of the air freshener.

This should help I think.

Otherwise give the dyson people a call, they will talk you through putting the thing together and taking it apart, they are really helpful.
