Help - who repairs a dishwasher?

Is it a plumber, or an electrician?

I think the element has gone - it's quite clear at the end of the cycle there's been no drying going on, and the crockery is stone cold.

Or must we just get a new one? I'd rather not - the bills are coming from everywhere at the moment...

my mum has the number for the local "hotpoint man" who comes to fix her washing machine and dishwasher. When our cooker broke, we researched on internet and the element was broke. We actually bought the part of the internet for less than a tenner and fitted it ourselves with the help of youtube.
If you phone engineer, you could look at paying alot of money £60+ callout fee, plus parts and labour costs etc...
Might be time to buy a new one if you can't fix it yourself.

Ooh, I think the element has gone on our cooker, it remains stone cold when you turn it on. Can you tell me a bit more about how you fixed it please? Sorry to hijack thread

we typed in the make and model to a online parts company, or you can buy off ebay. Then googled "fitting element in x model cooker" or similar. There was a link on youtube showing a bloke fitting it, was very simple, just had to remember to turn off the power first!!

Lovely local plumber who repaired our washing machine suggested that plumbers who don't charge a call-out fee are 'perhaps' more likely to find some work to do on the machine in order to pay for their time, whereas because he charged a call out fee, he had already been paid and would only recommend work if it was worth it - and labour cost would come out of his call out fee...

DH bought an element for our oven, he just unplugged the oven and pulled it out from the wall. Took the back off the oven and then did something technical.

Not sure if the above website may help.
