Shower cleaning

About ten months ago we had a lovely new bathroom fitted. It's great. The only trouble is the shower. We are in a hard water area and if we have a very quick shower it seems to take LONGER to squeegee and spray the shower walls and perspex door to remove the water droplets and keep the thing clean. It's got to the stage where I am seriously considering just using the shower hose on the bath taps instead because it's quicker to clean up.

At the moment i am squeegeeing and then spraying one of those sprays which supposedly keep the shower clean. I have tried dozens of the things. Are some much better than others?

Do any of those shower treatment packs work? I mean those kits that you apply to the walls and door and they're supposed to stop the water droplets from staining the surface. I know Lakeland does one.

Any advice gratefully received.

I've got a bleach pen for my grout and mould in the bathroom. Got it from the local Home Bargains (if you have one of those nearby, sort of Discounty place)

Doesn't stop it from coming back but easy to use from time to time.

Sister has a hotel and 12 showers to clean. She swears by Mr Muscle all purpose bathroom stuff (blue bottle) - you can get it in Waitrose but haven't seen it in Tesco.

Those who Sqeedgy their showers, does the lip thing at the bottom of the door then get full of black gunk?

HELP, I live in a very hard water area and have tried everything to get rid of orange limescale on the grout in my shower:
HG cleaner
Scrubbing the grout with thick bleach and washing up liquid
Dettol mould and mildew
White vinegar
Straight bleach on a toothbrush
Cillit bang
Lemon juice
CIF cream
And then i found a Spongtex grout sponge..... And the grout still looks vile like orange squash has been spread all over it!!!
I wouldn't mind but I had a water softener fitted 6 months ago ........and i always use Method shower spray- gorgeous smell.

Is there a domestic goddess out there with a solution( pardon the pun)?
Otherwise I think I'm going to have the whole shower re-tiled. Trouble is they'll be a point when we won't fit in it! Guess we'll have to move!

my glass shower screen drives me up the wall, can't seem to get it clean! The water droplets won't go away :( is that what the Viakal is for? I always thought it was only for metal surfaces...

The spray on daily shower cleaner is useless. I have discovered that a quick all over rub with cream cleaner and a J cloth every morning takes very little time and seems t keep the mould at bay too. I use bleach about once a month on the grout and in the shower tray. I don't get mould as wekeep the shower door and window open as much as possible

i have a few cleaning jobs and have successfully remived orange soap marks, black mould and water marks on glass doors.

for orange soap in grout, mix white vinegar with bicarb of soda and scrub with a toothbrush or silver scourer (this should also clean limescale off tiles)

for black mould, bleach over the black areas leave as long as possible, line the area with kitchen roll to avoid spillage.

white vinegar and a silver scourer also works very well to remove watermarks on glas shower screens. after this, spray with glass cleaner and rub dry with a microfibre cloth.

I try and dry the shower with a small towel after we have all finished each day - keeps it sparkly clean for much longer than just using a squeegy thing, then open the window for 30 mins, regardless of outside temperature. Only takes a couple of minutes effort and well worth it to see a shiny shower each day. However, the grout is beginning to look a little dirty in places so will be trying some of these ideas on that!

Hand held steam cleaner.

Cotton wool soaked in bleach for mouldy sealer. Keeps the bleach in place!

WhispersOfWickedness · 07/03/2013 17:55

HG mould remover for black mould. It does stink though, you have to do it in the morning and leave the windows open all day!!

For every day, I spray daily shower spray and then squeegee. Once I month I clean it properly with viakal and a microfibre, then dry it off and polish with a glass polishing cloth. Our water is really hard too.

The shower is fine but I cannot keep the SS sink clean, the watermarks are terrible!! I have to scrub with viakal every week Sad

I clean after ive had a shower. I wear a pair of gloves from the pound shop - the ones that you are supposed to use to exfoliate your body with (bought specially for this!) I put a squirt of limescale remover on them and just go for it all over the screen and tiles when I've finished my shower. It only takes a few minutes and its very easy to rinse it all off when your inside and naked . If I try and clean from outside its far more trouble and water goes everywhere.

I successfully cleaned my glass shower screen using limelight last night- was soooo chuffed :) (need to get out more) am tempted to ban DH from ever showering again!
