Dam it, I need a reading light, what, where, how much?

I hate eco light bulbs, can't see a dam thing anymore and its not just being 40+. At the moment I have two table lamps either side of my chair and they barely cast a shadow.
Are Hallogen bulbs any better?

I need a floor lamp, free standing reading light I can angle over my book.
But I live in an old cottage with very low ceilings.

So give me your best designer lighting web sites, please.

I know it's crap isn't it (eco bulbs). Can't see a sodding thing.

I went to John Lewis and bought some lamps. Their lighting section v good.

I see quite a few people have gone and got the up standing lamp from Ikea. We used to have it (till it got smashed with a ball) and that was v good for light.

If you are ok for money, I bought dh an Anglepoise lamp for Xmas and it is brilliant for light and you can angle it towards when you need it to be.

where you

I have just realised I quite enjoy talking about lamps

In deepest suffolk.

At the moment my sitting room has three wall ights and two table lights and I still can't read comfortably.

I think I need a free standing light I can put almost behind my chair and then angle over, but I need a decent powerful light not another pathetic eco bulb.

Also notice for the first time that two of the wall lightts have a faint pink glow and one has a green tinge to the glow.

I get migraines and think its the lighting that is making it hard to read and yes I have had my eyes checked recently and they are ageing and past it as well.

no it's definitely these shite eco bulb things

yes that's what we do (angle the light over our shoulders)

[http://www.anglepoise.com/Products/Anglepoise-Type1228__30422.aspx that's the one I bought dh]]

but you can also get them in a clamp version to clamp onto things

I would recommend going to a big JL if you can and having a look at what they have - I remember when I was younger there were loads of independent lighting shops but I haven't seen any around here

love the giant anglepoise but I have small cottage, small rooms.

Just found this , but sounds like it only takes the unmentionable bulbs.

yes that looks good doesn't it and a reasonable price

I must check what bulb I put in our lamp

you can get that bulb for that habitat lamp and I reckon that would be quite bright
