Am tempted to stay up all night cleaning

So desperate too get the house sorted. Have a large supply of red bull and very tempted to drink it all and hope to stay up for hours getting it all done. Kids will be up at 6am. Am I bonkers? .

I know I will feel crap tomorrow if I do stay up but at the same time, looking at mess and dirt all day is making me feel shit 24/7.

Have got a million things to do, and never seem to have time to get it done, before everybody messes everything up again?

Depends how old your kids are. If they are old enough to fend for themselves tomorrow while you collapse with exhaustion then do it if you really are that desperate.
If they will need input from you, or need driving anywhere by you then I would say you'd be mad to consider it.

Do you get any time while they are at school or wherever to get on top of things?

Depends where you live.... I think it's only fair you share that red bull with me

But like ali said are you going to be able to function at 6am

No they are both very little so need my attention all day and DH is at work. Think I am off to bed soon anyway. And off to fantasise about when the kids are old enough to fend for themselves and I can callapse in a heap for the day.

And no, no school (eldest is 2), no playgroup and they nap at seperate times so only time is the evening, when I am often working.

namechanged - I hope you got some sleep!

I'm a SAHM, DH works long hours and my DS has just dropped his daytime nap at not quite 18 months, so I do sympathise!

Come over and have a chat to us on Slatterns if you want some moral support helping you get things under control

Thanks.I was annoyed as I went to bed, but everytime I was just drifting off, DD2 woke me up! I litterally had about 45mins sleep in total last night...so might as well of stayed up and done it. I have spent ALL day from 5am cleaning and tidying. Now feel exhusted!!!

House looks good. Just don't open the cupboard under the stairs or the spare room . I litterally piled junk up to the ceiling . BUT at least now the house is CLEAN and I can now have a sort through as I go along. And then next time I get a child free afternoon, I can go through all the crap stuff I shoved in the spare room etc.

Well done! Hope you get a better night's sleep tonight!

staying up all night cleaning is actually a really good idea. Why didn't I think of it sooner? One of my biggest problems is that I work when the children are at school and then never get a thing done when they're home. I'd forgo a night's sleep to have a clean house

RockBird · 13/01/2010 10:41

I would too and I have done this, not the whole night but have stayed up till about 3am cleaning.

misshardbroom · 13/01/2010 10:45

by quite how serious I am.

Losing my ability to type in the filth and the chaos.

I really think forums are so good - seeing that somebody else is actually as desperate as I am REALLY helps me to feel better. Everybody I know in real life has the sort of house you can turn up at, completly un announced and it be clean and tidy regardless of time of day etc.

I feel just as exhusted as if I had done an all night cleaning session I think. 13 hours of cleaning yesterday with 2 little ones around is hard work.

BUT I do feel better for it. Still got lots to do but now feel that people could turn up unexpected and I wouldn't feel bad about the house. Everything now that needs doing is hidden away and I can just do one thing at a time.

Am feeling quite motivated. Spent the kids nap time preparing dinner from scratch which I dont usually have time for and feel like a big load of stress has been lifted.

Even have 3 loads of washing done today and have done all the washing up we have used so far. And DD1 is currently doing painting while I mumsnet play with DD2
