Bleaching towels

Despite regularly using oxy-bleaches in the wash, the handtowels that we use in the kitchen and loo are looking manky. They have a yellowy-grey patch at either end, exactly where you dry your hands when the towel is hanging on a rail.

Can I bleach them? How? They are white with a grey trim - will they come up sparkling again, or do I recycle and buy beige towels?

Using Ariel biological powder and washing at 90 degrees worked wonders on our white towels with yellowy patches. I was actually just using this method as I'd heard it was a good way to clean the machine. Chucked a couple of towels in just to see if it made a difference as I'd planned to bin them anyway. And hey presto! But we are generally users of eco-friendly non-bio liquid at 40 degrees so towels were probably in shock.

I gave up trying to get my expensive white towels white again so dyed them black and grey instead.

i soak my daughters whites in milton solution when they have stains i can't remove... would this be an option? Only works for whites tho!!

its cheap so would be worth a try before bleach (or recycling)

I shall try first Ariel, if that doesn't work then I'll try Miltons, and if that doesn't work then I'll try Jacaqueen's solution. I've already got one tie-died towel, as well as a technicolour one!

Thanks
