Come on, I need suggestions to help me out of hibernation!

So far the only thing I can come up with is "visitors"

Anyone with a tidy house care to tell me what keeps them going day after day?

  1. The prospect of the cleaner coming. She comes for a couple of hours on Thursday morning and consequently Wednesday night is the only time our house is immaculate.

  2. Mice.

The only other thing that has ever worked for me is to set a timer (along the lines of Flylady) and blitz the place for ten minutes in the morning and ten in the afternoon - maximum. But during that time you have to move at top speed and get out of breath - counts as exercise if you do it fast enough.

Cleaner - makes me tidy

And recently a new found desire to clean while not having to sit still breastfeeding.

Visitors.

When the sunlight highlights the dust.

When I get fed up of looking at it (although funnily enough DH never seems to get to that state )

And when the kids have gone to bed, makes front room look a bit more "adult".

Visitors

DH was delayed picking me up from work earlier this week and a colleague invited me to wait in her home.

As we walked in she apologised for the mess - it was 2 mugs on an unwiped work surface in the kitchen.

When I got home to my hovel I thought about how ashamed I would have been if she had arrived at my house.
It gave me the incentive to have a fairly major clean.

Luckily I live in the middle of nowhere, so unexpected visitors just don't happen.

get a maid!

I enjoy relaxing in a clean and tidy room, so I guess that is what motivates me.
It helps that DH and I are both like this, so it is not hard. I can imagine if you and your OH have different standards of what is okay, it would be tricky.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Special thanks to Clemette for recommending "Flylady" - I have had a shiney sink for 4 days now...

I don't like clutter, mess or dirt.

BigTillyMint · 13/01/2010 13:11

Visitors (of the very tidy type!) and guilt

SparkyToo · 13/01/2010 16:48

The mess - I can't stand it!

Fibilou · 04/02/2010 14:49

I hate mess and am extremely houseproud. That's what motivates me.

HarveysFurniture · 11/02/2010 13:28

Visitors mainly.

Putting a slightly different slant on things. Music always motivates me. If I know something needs to be done and I need some 'motivation', I put on some loud music, never fails me! :-)

Be careful not to play the same song over and over otherwise when you hear the song next time it'll make you think of cleaning :-(

Bon Jovi is a favourite of mine!

If the sun is shining outside in the morning and it's going to be a glorious day, that's enough motivation to get me started on housework. then I can bask in the sunny lounge when it's looking all clean and tidy and feel really chuffed with myself that I've achieved it and still be in a good mood.

Visitors.

I often do my entertaining at the same time, so that I have friends round during the week and more the following weekend so that house is guaranteed be tidy .

I occasionally force myself to have friends over, to 'encourage' myself to be tidy.

It's not that I'm untidy, just a little disorganised and at the end of the day, I prefer to sit and eat with my husband rather that run the vaccum cleaner around the house.
