Getting my first ever tumble dryer- what do i need to know?

I live in a flat that is slowly being overrun with drying laundry so my nan's christmas present to us is a tumble drier
It is going to be a vented kind, so I guess I will need to put the hose somewhere. Where can I get one of those little boxes so I don't have to open the window every time I use it? (it is already very cold in here!)
And do I need dryer balls or any other gizmos? I cannot tell you what a novelty it will be to be able to wash and dry my laundry on the same day, but am completely clueless

If you don't remove the fluff from the filter it will bugger the drier too.

Oh, and read labels, some things will shrink if tumble dried.

We currently have a mouse living in ours. But it is the condenser sort, so I don't think it's inevitable

We've been using this box for a few months now - works perfectly well. I second the advice to remove the fluff very regularly.

I just got my first drier with the xmas money from my parents. I'm going back to work full time next month and was dreading been overrun by washing. I absolutely love it- got a condenser white knight drier from Argos for £199.99 (this has been reduced after xmas- damn). I keep a box of coat hangers on top of the machine- and when everything is dry I hang up everything that needs to go away straight up so I don't have to do any ironing. All underwear goes in my ironing basket along with cupboard things. In total it takes me just over 3 hours to do a wash, dry it and hang it up looking perfect.

The drum on my dryer is quite big so I put my coloured wash and white wash into dry together but it came out alot more creased than normal so don't be tempted to overload unless you want to iron it all.

Try and dry the same weighed stuff together to reduce creasing- if you put bedding in with baby vests etc they end up looking like they need ironing.

Out of 6 washes I have done this week I have only had to iron 2 t-shirts and I use to iron a least a carrier bag of clothes every day of the week.
