How to get rid of mice?

The sodding things won't go away.

We've had pest control putting bait boxes down peridically over the past 6 months but the problem seems to be getting worse. Keeping food away, blocking up holes. We live in a victorian terrace, every morning i'm waking up to droppings on the worktop and in the in night i can hear them in the bedroom. Squeaking!

Dh and i are getting really stressed with it now. We have a toddler and a baby and everything feels dirty.

Anyone know how we can get rid of them?

A cat...or several.

20 years ago the flat we were in had mice. I put down humane traps, these are see-through plastic ones. Every time it caught one, I took it down the the local tree area & released them. It was too far for a mouse to come back, and eventually after about 6 that was it.

We have got a couple of plug in things that produce a pulsating high pitched noise. It can only be heard by rodents and not humans.

We came home from holiday and found evidence of one in DD's room, we caught it, and started the plug ins, and we have had no further activity.

Do you know where they are coming in?

We blocked the entry point (sink outlet)with wire wool and (touch wood) haven't had a problem since.

We've blocked as much as we can but there's such a lot of tiny holes and the houses on this road all have basements too. I think we're going to get a cat. I've wanted one for a while anyway. The bloke at rentokil said in a row of terraces it's pracically impossible to completely irradicate them.

I've got six cats and a terrier and we still had mice
Mind you, they are all lazy and probably fed too well!

just get traps and put them everywhere - not the humane ones. it will stop soon - chocolate is a good bait

TeaOneSugar · 08/01/2010 19:41

We haven't seen any since we got the plug in thingy.

Doobydoo · 08/01/2010 19:48

We have/had em.We put down traps that killed 2.It felt awful so we got humane clear traps and have caught 3.We released them 2 miles away!
We also have 4 super sonic plug in sound things and so far have had no more.
Very important to block holes!

sticky pads ---mice traps -cheap and nusty,....it works.
try at the poundland.
good luck.

Ugh. It is very horrid. I'm an animal friendly veggie but when this happened to me I got the traps out. Mice constantly urinate and carry a host of germs. Sorry Flip flop no comfort to you but my justification for not going down the humane route! I think the first thing to realise is that no one has 'a mouse' you have mice so keep on putting the traps down until no bodies have been found for several weeks. Second, look for how they are getting in and seal the entrances. Mice can chew through most things but wire wool is a good solution if you can't mix some concrete immediately. Good luck.

Rentokil branded traditional traps. Nutella. Peanut butter. Electronic pulsy things as back-up.
