Washer Dryers- - anyone happy with theirs?

We live in a small flat with a room beside the bathroom which has a useless 2nd loo. We are at last getting around to turning this into a utility room and are planning to get a washer dryer - although I have heard that they are not as efficient as a washer and a dryer. The problem is that as we are so limited with space we were planning on putting shelves above the washer dryer to maximise storage so it's a question of efficiency v space. I have only ever heard negative things about washer dryers - any positive experiences out there or have you all been disappointed? We're looking at the AEG-Electrolux L14850 recommended by Which. TIA

I had a Candy washer drier which lasted for years. I only ever used the drier for emergencies though.

Are you planning to use the drier all the time, or do you have space to put up a pulley / drying racks, and only use the drier from time to time?

I have a washer/drier. I don't really use the drier though because it's rubbish so I use drying racks and the radiators

Thanks for your replies TheYearOfTheCat and littleboyblue. Probably planning to use it a lot during the winter - good idea about putting up a pulley/drying rack. Will have to look at how much space we have.

If space was limited then I would get a combo.

Am also a which subscriber. I would consider the John Lewis one which is also in best buys. You get a 3 year guarantee which is worth alot these days and free delivery

We've got a Bosch one that's 10 years old and it's still going stong. I would highly recommend them!

I know you say you want to put shelves above, but you can get some machines that 'stack', so you would only need floor space for one appliance. Miele certainly do stacking kits for utility rooms that don't have space for both appliances. That way you could have separates.

Most Miele appliances come with a free 5 year guarantee. Periodically they offer a 10 year guarantee on some items, usually washing machines.

Sorry I'm a bit of a Miele evangelist

Thanks very much for all your responses. We've decided to go for the AEG - but are getting a Miele dishwasher emsyj! We're planning on putting shelves above the machine in the utility room.
