MrsFreedy · 26/12/2009 12:27

A hot iron was accidently dropped on to the carpet and has left a mark so I need to know how to get rid of it.
Thanks

I don't think you can unless you Stanley knife off the burnt bits.

MrsFreedy · 26/12/2009 12:38

tx however I didn't really want to that

Two years ago dd3 dropped a hot iron onto the lounge carpet right in front of the TV so your eye can't fail to see it every day.

I have to say though it is, at last, beginning to fade...

Not much help, sorry

EldonAve · 26/12/2009 12:47

I have always just trimmed off the burnt bits with nail scissors

or you could claim on house insurance if you have accidental damage cover

lucykate · 26/12/2009 12:47

i'm afraid there's not much you can do about a burn mark, particularly if its an acrylic carpet as it will have melted rather than burnt. can you claim on your contents insurance?

phatcat · 26/12/2009 12:52

if you've got a spare bit of the same carpet you can cut out the burnt bit and replace it and get it heat sealed into position by a carpet layer which should be invisible. Google 'iron burn on carpet' - this & other ideas too. We are in the same situation & have to sort it by end of Feb when we are moving out of our current rental otherwise will have to contribute to a replacement carpet. hth

what's the for? you have to trim off the burnt bits. What did you think, you could shampoo it?

MrsFreedy · 26/12/2009 13:13

I know that shampooing it will not work. It's just that the carpet is v short and the mark is in the middle of the lounge so I think that cutting it may make the carpet look worse. Thanks for your suggestion anyway.

Have you tried going over it with a disposable razor. It only removes a thin layer of fibres at at a time, but worked on a burn on my carpet.

lucykate · 26/12/2009 19:01

if it's in the middle of the lounge, could you cover it with a rug or coffee table until such time the whole carpet needs replacing?

MrsFreedy · 27/12/2009 18:42

Pip51 thanks for that idea, however I can be heavy handed at times so knowing me I will probably make it worse. I think I am going to leave it and hope it will fade

Lucykate I did speak to DH about claiming on the contents insurance but he was not very happy about that idea.
