What do you give your cleaner for Christmas? She has worked for us for a year, 3 hours a week. Going to give her cash but not sure how much. What are other people doing?

was going to give my cleaner cash too, but settled on a nice box of chocs. she also does 3hrs a week and has been with us for 3 months

Two weeks wages plus token gift to open

claraquack · 22/12/2009 13:50

A cook book, she loves cooking and is always interested in what I am cooking. But she works for us four days a week (I live overseas where wages are a lot cheaper than in the UK!).

£50 M&S gift voucher
And holiday pay.

She comes twice a week and is a saint.

SycamoretreeIsVile · 22/12/2009 14:09

Mine does 6 hours a week.

I've given her next week off with pay, and additional 40 quid, a box of biscuits and some smellies.

So, in total it's about 100 quid (arrgh) but we don't want her here next week - it's not her choice, so I don't see why she should be out of pocket.

She's been with us about 6 years though.

voucher for gap (she is young and beautiful) and two weeks extra pay ....

Thanks for your replies. Now have a better idea of what to give her.

Blimey - suddenly I feel like Scrooge! I gave our a bottle of wine and a little bag of handmade chocs. Should I be dishing out extra wages as well?

She comes to us through a company, so I don't know how much of what I pay she actually gets, iyswim.

I think it's different if you use an agency - when you're not directly employing the person. The lady that cleans for us is fabulous - she does a lot more than clean, really - shows an interest in the kids, will babysit or do the school run if I am in a pickle, is a friend now really.

GoodKingWhatFreshHellLookedOut · 22/12/2009 19:17

I don't know - I never talk to the company (they're a company rather than an agency - always the same person comes rather than AN Other), only to her, she's offered to babysit before, bought DS1 a MAtchbox car when DS2 was born, you know the sort of thing.

Wouldn't say we were bosom buddies, but we get on very well and she's lovely. She's coming tomorrow (she asked to, I didn't make her, before I come across as a real Scrooge!) so maybe I'll stick some cash in an envelope for her too.

dreamingofawhitexmasteamgirl · 23/12/2009 12:46

OMG, I feel like Scrooge too

I really really cant afford to dish out loads of extra money
Can barely afford to have cleaner

She just does me 1 hour and I pay her £11 per week and she isnt taking Xmas Eve or NYE off this year
2 years ago I left her wine and she left it with a note saying she doesnt drink, so I bought a Next toiletry set instead and I cant remember what I did last year

Not sure what to do now ... Myabe just make it up to £20?

weegiemum · 23/12/2009 12:51

We have a totally fabulous cleaner.

She doesn't just clean, she tidies too, and nothing fazes her, even ds bedroom!!

We have doubled her wage (from £40 to £80) this week as a Christmas bonus/thankyou.

But we can afford it, and I think she would have been as pleased with a bottle of wine/chocs/etc.

But she is really amazing, nothing is a bother for her, it means a lot to me.

BigJessie · 24/12/2009 09:19

OMG I just gave ours a weeks pay and thought I was being generous as I had toyed with the idea of a box of chocs.
She has been with us a year and does 3 hours per week
