what has it turned out as?

lissielouskissingsantaclaus · 15/12/2009 20:45

a slightly darker grey. I am not impressed. it was dylon too. dya think it was because i didnt wet the dress first?

Did it say to wet the dress?

I don't think grey would go red with dye tbh.

duckyfuzz · 15/12/2009 20:47

what fabric was it?

TipsyFairydifferentID · 15/12/2009 20:47

did you get a cold water or a hot water dye?

lissielouskissingsantaclaus · 15/12/2009 20:49

it said to add the salt then dye to the damp fabric (but on a tiny bit of paper shoved inside) it was a washing machine dye and the shop assistant said it would be ok.
grr

Katymac · 15/12/2009 20:51

it wasn't that it wasn't damp - it is more likely that the material won't take dye

duckyfuzz · 15/12/2009 20:52

the fabric will make a difference - manmade fabrics don't usually take a dye, wool, cotton or linen will though

lissielouskissingsantaclaus · 15/12/2009 20:53

buggeration. the colour it is doesnt go with black tights and didnt want to get a new one!

Hi lissie
I used dylon on a load of sheets during the summer and all was fine - yellow and blue sheets are now camoflage green

But some of the fabrics I put in didnt dye in the slightest - fleece doesnt for example
Im not sure about knitted fabrics but I suspect that it was the type of fabric that caused the problem

What does it say on the box about fabric types? And the label - exactly what is the fabric?

lissielouskissingsantaclaus · 15/12/2009 20:55

its in the machine at the mo, but i suspect its acrylic/wool mix.

OP posts:
Katymac · 15/12/2009 20:57

the wool part may change colour but the acrylic won't, sorry

IIRC, Manmade fabrics are difficult to dye so the acrylic wouldn't take the colour, only the wool.

lissielouskissingsantaclaus · 15/12/2009 21:02

dammit. the woman in the shop said it would be ok!
