Mould on silk dresses...

I have two exquisite silk tunic dresses, bought in a big sale a couple of years ago as a huge treat and never worn (because I got pregnant and way too big).

I took them out tonight to find - due to the vile little damp hellhole we rent - that they have mould all over them. Mould! A sort of pale cream mould. All Over Them. One is beige so you can't see it much; the other a deep red and you absolutely can.

What are the chances it will dry clean out? And will that cost ten thousand fortunes.

I am so sad. To be honest I am not sure I will ever fit into them. But I had pictured a grown up DD1 in them. Stupid.

I have the same thing with nearly all my clothes that are kept in my wardrobe (as opposed to the ones kept in the ironing basket!!). I have 2 winter coats that have mould on them that I was going to risk putting in the wash but haven't been brave enough to do it yet.

I was very upset the other week when I pulled out my bridesmaid's dress that I wore to my sister's wedding and that is covered in mould. I considered putting this in the wash too as it's not fit for use anyway so I wouldn't be losing anything by having a go in the washing machine.

I was behind a lady in the queue at the dry cleaners who was handing in mouldy trousers. The lady behind the counter commented on the mould but charged normal price for cleaning. Could take them into a couple of dry cleaners and get some quotes?

To prevent the rest of my things from going mouldy I am ebaying them! I had so much stuff for cming that I thought would be useful if I'm looking after a certain age group but I've sold most of it because it was getting ruined and would only be fit for the bin!

Thanks Mogs0, makes me feel a bit better that I am not alone.

Bumping, does anyone know how much drycleaning silk should cost? I have this feeling it's super expensive?

Sorry to say this but mould is a very serious health hazard so you would be better off to ditch them and no ebaying them to someone else. Read mold-help.org and Get Well Soon-Remove The Cause The Effect Will Astound You! by United Authors. Does anyone in your hellhole that you rent have health issues?
