I am totally in love with our Nespresso machine, but you won't get one with milk frother for £80. I am waiting for ours to die so that I can justify getting this one

We have this one It makes very good coffee.

You normally get a voucher for coffee capsules with the machine.

MmeLindt · 30/11/2009 15:34

good deal here and you get £40 voucher for the capsules.

We also have the aerocino for milk froth.

DanJARMouse · 30/11/2009 16:39

ooooh I love your first link! but mega ££££

Ok, so if I have to abandon the milk frother, where do I go for the proper coffee "splutter bucket" bit and looking kinda funky!

I was looking at something like this www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4233055/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CKitchen+and+laundry%7C1441 8476/c2/3%7C15701302%7CSmall+kitchen+appliances%7C14418587/c3/4%7Ccat_14418587%7CCoffee+machines%7 C14418602.htm?

I know, that is why I am hoping waiting for the one we have to die. I really cannot justify spending that kind of money on a new machine, when we already have one that works.

Tbh, I don't think much of the combi coffee maker thingies. We had one before we bought the Nespresso and the coffee is nowhere near as good. Maybe someone else has tried one that is better.

MmeLindt · 30/11/2009 16:54

Or would you go for a used one from ebay?

Quite a few on there at the moment at good prices.

chopstheduck · 30/11/2009 16:59

I used to have a triple thing, I think it was by morphy richards. We found that we NEVER drank expresso, and rarely used the frother. I freecycled it in the end.

I'd spend the money on getting a decent coffee machine. We bought this one as a replacement. It makes lovely coffee and the best bit is that is is programmable so we set it to come on jsut before we get up in the mornings. The jug is insulated, so it keeps the coffee warm without it stewing and going burnt tasting too.

catinthehat2 · 30/11/2009 16:59

Can you go up to £130? This is v good and seems to be the only one you can stick a mug under, which is necessary for full time addicts.

chopstheduck · 30/11/2009 17:00

this is our old combi one if you are really set on a multi purpose one. It is good, but the things I didn't like were the size of the thing, and the filter was washable rather than paper and got rather manky looking over time. I also think paper filters make for better coffee.

DanJARMouse · 30/11/2009 17:09

thanks all.

there are some good links there.

I really have NO IDEA when it comes to coffee - at the moment DH is drinking about 5 cups of coffee a day, just normal granulated stuff (allbeit the posher stuff) but I know he would adore a proper coffee machine, my dad has a combo one and DH loves going to his house!

Right will investigate more, and maybe post some more links to find out what you think!!!

Also, I have long given up with the mostrous faff that is the frother. I just heat milk in the microwave, let the coffee flow in on top, and a nice head actually appears from the mix of the coffee and the hot milk.

NB, if he drinks 5 cups of full strength machine coffee a day his head will fall off.

geordieminx · 30/11/2009 17:19

If its just for him I would recommend a senseo from Philips - you buy pods for it - on amazon at the moment for about £50. Just stick the cup under and you get a nice cup of coffee - ideal for 1

stealthsquiggle · 30/11/2009 17:24

catinthehat - interesting assertion, but my head hasn't fallen off yet and my one of these makes me more than 5 cups a day (

catinthehat2 · 30/11/2009 17:39

Stealth - honestly, it's something I made up a scientific fact, peer reviewed and everything.

stealthsquiggle · 30/11/2009 17:43

It appears to still be attached, albeit you might not be able to tell sometimes.

Must be that I can't count then, given that it is proper science an all that...
