Put this in chat by accident - not alot of people like to chat about hoovers methinks!

Three of us in the family have long hair and our 12 year old Dyson has finally given up and I need to buy a new one soon, well like now really if I want to hoover within the next couple of weeks .
Upright or cylinder?
bagless or baggy?
and can I get away with an affordable one or will I have to negotiate with father Christmas for a new one?
And preferably from Amazon or John lewis as I have some vouchers I can steal from the children!

Miele cat and dog

Amen

Well I won one of the Dyson upright animal ones with the ball. It's fab, it's so easy to move and apart from a couple of teething problems with getting the extension bits out (I don't have a lot of strength in my hands) there's nothing I can say negatively about it

Are they very expensive?

Miele cylinder hoover here.

Can't remember what the model number is but it is fab. It has a bag but is very easy and clean to change.

Miele Cat & Dog, I don't miss the two dysons we had one tiny bit.

emsyj · 30/11/2009 15:52

I have the Miele one too, it's black and a cylinder but can't remember the model number. It wasn't massively expensive, we've had it years, treated it rough and it's still going strong! Love it.

I would also go for a miele everytime, except i would always choose a bagged one. there are offers around at the moment with miele, i think in comet for around £99.

Can anyone recommend a hoover that I can use on wooden floors?

Gingerbics · 01/12/2009 19:41

I would recomend the Henry range of hoovers, really really efficient, although its not an upright you can stand upright to hoover duc to the long hose. The hose is longenough to do a whole staircase whilst leaving the main hoover downstairs. Can't recommend enough, we got the pink one called Hetty!

emsyj · 04/12/2009 15:59

We have parquet throughout our downstairs frankie3 and I use my Miele cylinder vacuum cleaner on it... it is quite heavily varnished though (rather than waxed) so has a tough surface. I have previously used it on varnished floorboards too. I also use it on the kitchen and bathroom tiles with no problems at all.

Miele Cat and Dog is v. good. I have really long hair and although I like to blame all the hair on the pets it is mostly mine!

I should be on commission from Miele as all I do on this board is say ooh yes Miele fridge/vacuum/washing machine but they are so good and long lasting which justifies the price.
