Does anyone use a steam generator iron?

Unfortunatly I do a lot of ironing.

Can you really power through the ironing with these steam generating irons? I've never used one but like the idea of anything which would make ironing easier.

Any advice/recommendations appreciated.

hi Sesi, I have one of these, I got it because surgery meant I lost strength in my right arm. It is certainly lighter weight and less hard work to 'push' ikwim.

I'd say the ironing does take less time e.g. you only really need to iron on one side because it removes creases so well. So good if you have a lot of shirts etc.

On the down side, its quite large, you need space on your ironing board for it. You may well get a few burnt fingers until you get used to it, its very hot and a powerful jet. You and the room get quite hot while using it.

But I do like mine, it makes life easier.

Thank you kurri, hope you don't mind me asking a few more questions?

Which brand of iron have you got, so far i've only looked at the polti ones.

Also when you say the room gets hot, is it very steamy - i'm thinking steamed up windows etc or is it just hot in temp?

Another question (sorry) is it very noisy. Could you hear a radio over it or is like a kettle boiling all the time?

Thanks,

Its this one Sesi, here. although I think we paid about 140 pounds for it, but that was six months ago, so may have gone up. we chose it largely for the weight (its a fairly light model).

We get a bit of steaming on the windows, nothing too awful though, but I do tend to gradually strip off my layers as I'm ironing, of course that could just be me!

Its fairly noisy as its heating up - which takes about 4mins - noisier than a kettle, but once it reaches temperature it quietens down. I can hear the TV fine over the noise.

Thanks you've been really helpful.

I think I'll be buying one this week. It doesn't sound to bad with the steam and noise etc which was a bit of a concern.

I'm quite looking forward to doing some ironing with it now

Hope you find one you like. I find mine v. useful - I mean it doesn't do the ironing for you, which is obviously the ideal - but it makes it less of a task.
