What is the lowest your room temperature has been so far?

I have had the heating on in the evenings and mornings (we are oop north) but the other afternoon the temp was 12 degrees in the hall/kitchen and I resisted the temptation to put it on a bit, got on with some strenuous housework, put on my legwarmers and sang 'Fame' to keep my spirits up!

PersonalClown · 13/11/2009 15:33

It reached about 12/13 degrees here (good old herts) but that wasn't by choice!
We've only just had our heating properly fixed.

nappyaddict · 13/11/2009 16:40

Brrrr 12 degrees is too cold for no heating!

OP posts:
nannyl · 14/11/2009 00:26

Im down south

i have stuck it once for 1 hour, so far when the room temperature was 14C... that was 2 days ago.

the room temperature is now 15C, and i have warm clothes on and a cosy fleeze blanket, and im fine.

I have actual real thermometers (as opposed to colour changing grobad style thermometers; actually i have those as well and when it was actually 14C i could see 9(just) 12 and 15(just). 12 says danger of hypothermia take action now, but with my real thermometers i know the real temperature was 14C

I dont let it get colder than that while im here, but having my heating on for an hour brings it up to about 17 / 18C which i think is fine

snorkie · 14/11/2009 00:35

We lit the woodstove for the first time last night (not tonight though) as the kids wanted to. CH not been on yet. No idea what the temp has been down to (no room thermometer). I don't think it's been that cold, but thinking about it everyone's put an extra blanket on their beds, so it must be quite cool at night.

BananaPudding · 14/11/2009 01:10

We haven't put the heating on yet. The thermostat hasn't gone below 20.

lljkk · 14/11/2009 19:07

20??? Where do you live?

DH would never have put the heating on so far this winter. I DO need it.
It's been down to 11-12 degrees in the house several times.

DaisymooSteiner · 16/11/2009 13:34

We've had no heating for the past few weeks because of a rubbish plumber. It's been down to about 12C on a regular basis, probably less at night.

The heating was fixed yesterday and we've had it on twice for about an hour (apart from pre-set times in mornign and evening). I've been struggling with a nasty cough for about a fortnight and already I feel much better and haven't coughed all day. I don't have the heat very high - thermostat's set to 18C and I probably wouldn't put it on outside of the set times unless it was about 15-16C - but I just feel miserable when I'm cold, it really affects my quality of life and the children seem much happier now it's warm too.

norksinmywaistband · 16/11/2009 13:44

goes down to 15 during the day, probably lower at night( definately feels it when I get up to DC) but cannot be arsed to come down and check the thermostat.

nappyaddict · 16/11/2009 13:58

Norks is 15 degrees the actual room temperature or what the thermostat is set too? I know what the thermostat says and what that brings the actual room temperature to varies in our house. Does 15 degrees feel warm enough to you?

OP posts:
norksinmywaistband · 16/11/2009 18:57

15 is actual room tempreture. It feels fine to me, and the Dc are obviously alright as still refusing to wear vests or jumpers and live in long sleeve t-shirts

monkeyfacegrace · 16/11/2009 19:09

Bloody hell, you lot are hardcore! Mine is on for 4 hours from 5am-9am, then 1pm-2pm, then again 5pm-10pm full bollock! My house never goes below 22, I have cold uninsulated walls and Im anal about my kids being cosy!

bergentulip · 16/11/2009 19:17

22 degrees????? Jeez louise.... that's high

Gosh I couldn't cope with 22! My mum switched it up to 18 earlier and I was roasting. When it was 15 degrees in the summer I was wearing tshirts then just putting a thin cardigan on if the wind was a bit chilly, so 15 degrees inside should be fine.

I got given a leaflet by the HV when DS was born for the amount of bedding needed for different temperatures. It goes from 12-24 degrees so all temperatures inbetween must be considered acceptable. It says:

12 Sheet plus four or more cellular blanket layers
14 Sheet plus four cellular blanket layers
16 Sheet plus three cellular blanket layers
18 Sheet plus two blanket layers
20 Sheet plus one or two blanket layers
22 Sheet plus one blanket layer
24 Sheet only

A 2.5 tog sleeping bag is equivalent to a sheet plus 2 blanket layers. A blanket folded in half is also equivalent to 2 blanket layers.

It got to 13 in the living room today. Because I am on a prepayment meter, still, i only have thd ch on for an hour in the morning and an hour at night.

nappyaddict · 18/11/2009 02:14

Those prepayment meters work out expensive don't they. I don't envy you being on one of those! Did 13 feel too cold? I don't normally let ours get below 15 but only because that's what I was always brought up with mum putting it on then.

OP posts:
Knickers0nMaHead · 18/11/2009 02:38

Yeah it was quite chilly. I have been in this house two and a half weeks and have put 45quid on it already. British gas were meant to be changing the meter but the lazy arse bastards never showed!

nappyaddict · 18/11/2009 10:02

Have you been on uswitch to double check British Gas will be the cheapest for you?

OP posts:
Knickers0nMaHead · 18/11/2009 12:17

Im getting broadband tomorrow and my laptop from exp so will be able to sort it out then. I have no intentions of saying on prepayment.
