kitchenaid v kmix v kenwood chef

ok, so following on from the success of last years birthday present (a slow cooker!), I am approaching 40 so have asked for an extra expensive special present this year, a kenwood chef. I've wanted one for ages, and have seen one in costco thats way cheaper than anywhere else.

anyway, so now I've seen the kitchenaid, and OMG its looks so much sexier (if a mixer can be sexy) and the kenwood kmix, which looks kinda similar. so, can anyone tell me why the kmix/kitchenaid are so much more expensive? do you own one, and is it as truely wonderful as it looks? does it do more than the chef (or does it just look fabulous?).

help!

thanks

I think it's looks, as I think the Chef does more (I seem to remember a blender coming with a Chef that was the same price as my KitchenAid) - however, I LOVE my KitchenAid as it looks so good. It has 3 attachments - whisk, beater and dough hook. I use it mainly for cakes and meringues so have no need of anything else. You can get attachments if you are that keen - a rotary grater, a pasta maker, a sausage stuffer I think. I don't mind seeing it on the worktop, the Chefs look so functional and dull.

You don't fancy a Magimix then?

The kitchenaid is one of my favourite possessions (and I'm not especially materialistic). I wanted one for 10 years before I finally 'allowed' myself to get it last year...wish I'd just got it 10 years ago. It should last forever, makes the best meringues you will ever taste, cakes basically make themselves...and looks v sexy on my worktop too.

I can't speak for the Chef as I've never tried it.

Take a look on amazon for the reviews of the kitchenaid.

I've just bought a slow cooker in the last few weeks and loving that too.

i would go for the kenwood chef. to me it just seems a more serious piece of kit, although the kitchenaid machines do look great.

my mum had a kenwood which was used regularly for about 30 years til it was chucked (mainly because she doesn't cook/bake so much anymore and it was taking up too much space in her small-ish kitchen).

i have an ancient kenwood chef and when it dies i will replace it. it's not the prettiest machine but it is stored in a cupboard so not on display anyway.

i don't like the magimix, don't know why, just don't get on with it.

hello again,

thank you for you replies, sorry to be so long coming back, I didn't think anyone had replied.

I hadn't considered the magimix actually, but i guess thats because I've always wanted the Chef. Until I saw the kitchaid that is. I'm not so bothered about the extra attachments (though I quite like idea of a mincer), its mostly for the big bowl and the beater, whisk and dough hook. my intentions are mostly dessert related .

The kitchenaid just looks so cool, though its well over £150 more! is it really worth it?

The white version is a bit cheaper on Amazon at the moment:
