sofas, fabric or leather

following on from my previous thread, I can't decide whether to get a leather or fabric sofa.

my head is saying leather- i have 3 little boys, it's practical, wipe clean etc etc

but you know what? i don't reeeally like leather and if i didn't have the children i would definitely get fabric.

meh, i can/t decide. will you decide for me?

we are having same dilemma, dh wants leather and would be practical, but I don't really fancy it and very expensive for a nice one. I want a fabric one, but hard to choose colour, pattern etc... I think removable and washable colours are a must, we are looking at ikea who do several sofas with washable covers not too expensive!
hth

if it helps cheap leather is all plasticky and urgh. washable covers are the way forward.

well yes, if we go for leather it'll be something that feels nice! lol
but i do know what you mean, leather isn't great for snuggling up on is it

actually nice leather is wonderful for snuggling, soft and not at all cold, but because of all that it's not easy care like the plastic-coated ones are. we have a vintage leather suite but keep it covered in the winter, to save some wear and tear, although i do still feel bad about subjecting it to the rigours of family life.

If pots of money then good aniline leather - nothing worse than cheap, cacky leather.

If not pots of money then cheap Ikea fabric sofas with 3 lots of removeable covers.

hmmm, well, we depends what you mean by pots of money lol
i guess i am looking at a max of around £1,200 ish which seems an awful lot, but my last sofa was about £600 and has only lasted 5 years (in fact, it broke after about 2) so am looking at it as an investment and hoping it will last a lot longer than 5 years lol

hmmm so tell me pros and cons of leather then, if we were to spend a reasonable amount on one

don't know if this helps, but i've just found www.sofasinstock.co.uk and they have some lovely leather sofas, and fabric ones too. i have fabric sofas at home at the moment, but have my eye on a leather chesterfield from john lewis!! its gorgeous

We got a chocolate mocha brown coloured fabric one from next. Its great. I loved the idea of leather with the kids, but not in the middle of winter at 5 in the morning...too cold!!!!

Fabric.
I hate leather, it's not snugly and I don't like the smell.
