Run out of washing powder - what can I use instead?

I've got no less than 4,937 children coming over to play in about 10 minutes so no chance to go and get some. What can I use instead of washing powder?

Do I really need to use anything at all if it's not all very dirty? I've got loads of fabric conditioner.

I'd run it without - assuming you're talking about an automatic washing machine, pretty much anything will cause it to fill with froth and overflow all over the floor. Automatic washing machine powder/liquid is different, low-frothiness stuff.

even when i wash without detergent (for the machine etc) im amazed how much detergent gets in and bubbles up.

so long as u usuall y use detergent there will be enough residue for a wash or 2

Dunno. Soap? Scrape some of a bar of soap into the drawer of machine? Plain old soap works well for hand washing so should work OK.

I put a squirt of washing up liquid in the drum, never causes excess bubbles here and gets great results!

I have done it without anything many a time and they all come out washed well, not smelling as soap-fresh, but clean!

I have the same problem atm cant go out cos baby napping. Im abit scared to use nothing as my daughter peed on her blanket would washing up liquid be ok as i dont want my machine breaking down over christmas

I've used a squirt of shower gel before which was fine

But never ever use washing up liquid in the dishwasher - I learnt the hard way this doesn't work

kym if it's fresh pee I would just do a rinse+spin.

How about baking powder? Would that work? I keep seeing articles about the amazing cleaning power of baking powder.

yes, not baking powder. baking soda would work (is similar if not the same as soda crystals).

Sploosh of white vinegar and a squirt of washing up liquid for peey bedding will be fine. Yip to no fairy in the dishwasher though i put some in a pot once and it bubbled over the floor

Pee ? Capful of any type of disinfectant

I grate soap with with my micro plane grater and use that when washing woollens ( good way to use up un- used soap gifts). I don't put much in just in case of excess bubbles but I have never had a problem.
