Please, please someone have a fantastic tip for streak and smudge free windows... it's my least favourite job, and they always look worse when I'm finished!

e-cloths

PfftTheMagicDragon · 21/10/2009 16:04

I am disappointed that the title is in fact, not STEAK free windows, as I first though. HMPH! I use a green Spontex window cloth, you just wet it, one side to clean, the other side to dry the window, it dries properly without any streaks. I started using that when I got sick of using tonnes of kitchen roll every time I did the windows.

luciemule · 21/10/2009 21:29

Other than e-cloths, I saw aggie and what's her name mixing a couple of teapoons of cornflour into a sprayer of water and giving it a good shake. Then just spray on and wipe off with a clean, soft cloth. This is great for mirrors too and when they showed it, you could see how amazing they looked.

Curiousmama · 21/10/2009 21:31

cornflour tip does work ds1 does windows with that.

I've been using Asda's spray (with vinegar in) and e-cloth or similar, no smears

henryhuggins · 21/10/2009 21:31

vinegar/water mix and newspaper (honestly)

Curiousmama · 21/10/2009 21:32

yes vinegar/water/touch of washing up liquid works but be careful of newspaper staining UPVC frames.

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 21/10/2009 21:32

what hh said - newspaper is best for finishing off, and vinegar (white, and definitely NOT balsamic ) v good for cleaning.

ChickandDuck · 21/10/2009 22:58

thank you everyone!

can you get them in the supermarket? Was going to say eco tips would be even more appriciated!

Have tried vinegar and it was hopeless, will try with newspapr though, have a stack in the kitchen waiting to be 'mache-d'!

Haha, it seems I'm not alone in thinking this thread was entitled 'steak free' windows. Made me laugh out loud, and cheered me up at the end of a shitty day.

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 22/10/2009 15:24

When I've tried using newspaper my hands get absolutely filthy and it's really difficult to get the print off. If I use rubber gloves they are ruined. Anyone else have this problem?
