Stepping stool for toddler? Where to buy?

bellbottom · 17/10/2009 20:38

I live in Holland and here you can buy stepping stools at almost any street corner shop! I use one for my toddler in the home, so she can stand at the sink and worktops and get involved. I wouldn't be without one!

I'm visiting my parents next week in England, and my mum has searched high and low to find one in time for our visit - but says they are nowhere to be seen!

Surely this can't be true? What does everyone else use? Mine is 30cm high, which is just the right height. (A toilet step, as in mothercare, is too low for sinks etc)

Can someone give shopping tips? Thanks!

IKEA always used to do them.

whomovedmychocolate · 17/10/2009 20:42

Ikea still do them - two step ones - very good value.

MrsJiggle86 · 17/10/2009 20:43

they are hard to find at mo, try the market

Oooh they have gone up to £11!

bellbottom · 17/10/2009 21:05

HI,
thanks for tips.
I was looking for one single piece - a lightweight plastic stool. I don't fancy the idea of a fidgety toddler standing on the step type with 2 steps. Visions of toppling backwards...

Is there a place that sells a platic stool? Like a toilet step, but higher? They are literally everywhere here! In indian shops, markets, all over the place. But my mum said she's tried all over, and no sign of one! This is becomming such a stress!

BB my dd has loved our bekvam since she was just 2 - highly reccomended!
She sits on the top with feet on the step or stands on bottom and does stuff at worktop (vague memory she stood on top step when she was 2 and shorter)

Never ever has she fallen off it

They are fab fab fab - and great for adults to perch on too
DD has used ours as her sit at the table chair for 3 years but is now saying she is 'growed up'

We have this one.

Lakeland also do a folding version but it's expensive.

LauraIngallsWilder · 17/10/2009 21:13

This is an option if you want to empty your bank account here but a bekvam is better imho and far far cheaper!

LauraIngallsWilder · 17/10/2009 21:16

Ive got the second one idril linked too (about £3 from a bargain shop) and have fallen off it several times, avoid avoid

although it does work on the grass as a trampoline climbing up step

MuddlingThru · 17/10/2009 21:17

I saw a cheap plastic step in Wilkinsons last week for about £2.50.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 17/10/2009 21:17

just get the ikea one, it's perfect.

whomovedmychocolate · 17/10/2009 21:28

I know what you mean - Rymans sell them (the stationery shop) they are called 'toddler stools' but if you google that god knows what shit you'll find

LauraIngallsWilder · 17/10/2009 21:36

at whomoved and that double refernce to poo!

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 17/10/2009 21:58

god,i thought you were talking to me
no wonder I was confuzzled

mylovelymonster · 17/10/2009 22:04

We got one from Wilkinson's for £2. Is great size for loo, bathroom sink, or sitting on at our coffee table. Just a single step though so we make sure dd doesn't put all her weight on an edge as it topples over. Great buy tho.

bellbottom · 18/10/2009 20:32

thanks all.

Where is Wilkinsons? Never heard of it. My parents live in South London. I grew up there but not familiar with that store, and can't find a website for them...

mm - we have them in Herts, thought they were everywhere. How about a big Tescos or Asda - somewhere like that?

loobs61 · 20/11/2009 14:21

www.higgos.co.uk do one - I think it's £4.50 - similar to the Ikea one

Bekster · 27/01/2010 21:58

I'm looking for a stool/box thingy that I saw in a magazine. It looks like a tea chest that your little one stands in so they can't topple off it of accidentally step off it. the base can be moved higher and lower as your child grows. It's similar to The Learning Tower but I believe cheaper! Thanks Becky

For bellbottom - here is teh website for Wilkinsons www.wilkinsonplus.com/
