What setting do you put your washer on and what powder do you use??

Boring I know, but I am interested as I have been doing the same for years, and the DH had the audacity to question me!

I generally use a 35 minute wash and have been using the Aerial gel (as it was on offer). My machine has numerous settings that vary from 2 hours to 3 hours, and I honestly cant see a difference when the clothes come out.

DH complains that his work shirts dont smell clean and the armpit area doesnt look clean - I argued that he needed new shirts! They are deep blue uniform shirts BTW. I generally dont do full loads as the machine can regulate the amount of water needed.

So what do you MNers use? Do I need to wash them longer or is he just a sweaty betty that needs to shower more often!!

60 for everything. (I find they dont look clean on a lower temp wash).

40 on a delicate wash for jumpers and delicates

I use mainly Ariel powder, tabs or gel, sometimes bold, gel or powder if its on offer

40 degrees about an hour, am trying to use a 30 degree wash more though. We use whatever liquid or powder is in offer.

I wash most things on a 40 degree cotton wash - takes longer but has a faster spin speed so things come out much less wet - makes a big difference, as we don't have much drying space.

I wash bedding and towels on a 60 degree cotton program.

I wash DD's cloth nappies on a special 60 stains program (which the manufacturer claims is a more intensive wash making it equivalent to washing at 90), with an extra rinse cycle at the end - it takes over an hour and a half.

I use non-bio washing powder for everything, whatever is on offer. At the moment I am on Fairy Liquitabs.
I put softener in with everything except the nappies, just because I like the smell; I put white vinegar in with the nappies to make them soft.

I also use a magnoball as we live in a very hard water area.

I try to use the "energy saving" wash which doesn't actually say how hot it gets and takes 126 min. If I've not got time to wait then I stick it on 40C standard wash whicht akes 76min. This assumes standard clothes/bedding rather than something delicate.

I use ASDA own brand powder tablets in moon and ylang or white orchid. Smell lovely.

40 degrees for colours
60 degrees for most whites
80 degrees for underclothes and sheets (need to be higher than 70 to kill all the bacteria)

I use Persil non-bio + vanish (I have the messiest kids and DH!), both bought in bulk at Cosco

DP's work shirts all say 30 or 40 on the care labels and are quite expensive so that is what I do. Reading this though, I am wondering if I should try them on 60, or if it would harm them? They are not smelly AFAIK but they do get a bit grey on cuffs and collars and we pre-treat with Vanish. Maybe with a hotter wash this wouldn't be necessary.

We use Fairy non-bio powder and wash just about everything on 40 apart from towels and really manky things like bathmats, which I do on 60.
