Just curious- I tend to alternate but do the white towels more often at 60- but wonder if this is a waste of energy?

60 - same for bedding

I always wash at 60 since I heard a radio program where some expert or other said the very memorable 'If you wash lousy clothes at 40 degrees, you get very clean lice.'

40 - we don't have lice and our towels come out clean. A nice blow in the sunshine helps too, of course. Saving on energy definitely important for us.

  1. Modern machines and powders are much more effective so no need to do a 60 wash unless things are really dirty.

I have no lice ib, so not an issue here

no lice either- I know 60 is for dust mites on bedding, but the towels are wet rather than actually dirty. They are alwys dried outside unless weather v bad.

dust mites live in the mattress though don't they? as that's where all the dead skin cells gather

Dust mites can live anywhere, including curtains, carpets and furniture.

They can live on matress covers and hence work their way onto sheets and duvets- my son has a severe DM allergy so we had once upon a time to damp dust and hoover everything witha special hoover.

40, and then a nice blow in the sun.
