Oh yes, this is the next DM column .

My bin drives me mad. Size wise it is fine but I constantly have to take the lid off to get stuff in as the swing lid is either too small or I spill food all down it. I also think the lid could have become misshapen from going in the dishwasher.

I don't want a foot-pedal-to-open-the-lid bin. It needs to be able a metre tall. Prefer it to be very long lasting. Doesn't have to make my tea but does need a decent size mouth to take the rubbish without having to remove the lid.

We invested in a Brabantia round 30L bin last year. It has a sort of touch bin lid which pops up. It is fab, and actually comes with a guarantee in case I break it.

You can get bigger ones, and different shapes - but we do so much recycling that this one is fine for us.

I agree - the brabantia touch bins are great. I have broken ours and had both catch and subsequently whole lid replace free of charge.

Now I need to find one which fits into the pull-out unit in our kitchen, as the bin it came with is the only rubbish thing (ha ha) in the whole kitchen and is now completely broken.

I have a brabantia touch top one which is great think it is 30l - keeps the smells out etc - but dirt can get trapped on the lid which is a pita to the clean out.

We only have one binbag per week as the rest is all recycling - need more bins for that - but that is a whole other thread

I got a simple inexpensive bin from Ikea - it has a lift up lid and the lid will stay up until you flip it down. Off white plastic.

It has been terrific and was only something like £8. I think it was called Fibbe.

I love that MI but I would still have to take the lid off and have it on the floor. Thank you though. I want something where the bin can stay in situ.

Another Brabantia fan here...the touch lid is great, can just open it using your elbow if your hands are full of rubbish

Any ideas for stockists as I know they are expensive.

Our local B&Q had some in their sale - might be worth a try?

Not much help, but I have a fab bin - fitted in kitchen unit. You pull knob out at top, it's hinged on the bottom and has ordinary plastic bin in which you can take out and wash. You can scoop stuff off worktop, and animals can't get in (we had cats that used to jump onto swing bin and fall in), and smells can't get out. When it's away it just looks like ordinary kitchen unit.

Whenever someone says "where's your bin", I show them smugly and all are amazed! Not much good to you unless you are embarking on a new kitchen, but brilliant none the less!

My DH is extremely proud of his Simple Human recycling bin. It is about 1m tall and semi circular with a foot pedal. It has two 30 l compartments, one for general rubbish and one for recycling.

We got ours from Costco for about £60

I have a Curver Bullet Bin which I like and doesn't cost the earth.

We have the Brabantia bin described in previous posts. It is FAB. I used my Nectar points at Argos which helped towards the extortionate cost.

Echo what MimieD said. Have the Brabantia flat back one and can open with elbow when hands are full. Even DS finds it easy to open and close. Bonus.

how do you get brabantia bins mended?
Mine is in the shed because the catch on the lid broke.
Could i get a new catch free?

I have a Brabantia touch bin, the recycling version which is semi-circular and has two compartments.

I love the fact that you can take the lid off and wash it with kitchen cleaner and hot running water. It is so much more hygienic than a pedal-bin.

You send whatever you need off and they replace it. Free? Can't remember if it needs to be within guarantee period or not. Do you know where the receipt and info is?
