Smelly tops

You know how if you sweat in a top once then it always smells when you wear it again...

How do you stop it stinking? It smells clean when it's washed but the smell seems to come out as it warms up on your body.

Yes I was going to add what Ruby has just said. Man made fabrics such as gym kit, running vests do pong after a short while.

I dont think any amount of vinegar, washing with a good quality detergent at a high temp. will help.

at the 95 degrees though ... didnt think anybody did this !

White vinegar will work it's fantastic for this, spray directly onto armpit area (of clothing not yourself) leave for 10 mins or so then wash, gym kit soak in a 30/70 mix of vingear and warm water overnight.

Sherbert I finally got round to trying this out t'other week. I put the wine vinegar in an old spray and squirted it on the offending armpits (of the clothes!) and left if for a few minutes before washing. It did help I think, although tbh some of my tops are a bit far gone.
I feel I should mention also that all the tops I'm talking about are cotton, I bathe every morning and I use proper anti-perspirant! I think the worst affected tops are those with close-fitting underarms. And strangely I think that cotton tops are worse for keeping hold of the pong. I don't know if this is down to the cut of the tops in question or if natural fibres are more inclined to retain these things (in the same way that they stain more easily and you can't dye nylon well, iyswim).
Anyway, as a bonus: I used the spray to squirt all my glasses as they'd got a bloom from the dishwasher that I couldn't shift. And it worked! I sprayed the glasses and put them through an ordinary cycle. Twas magic.

I've used vinegar too but can also HIGHLY recommend Napisan which someone else recommended here - a little soak before the things go in the machine.
