Mean woman next door! Would you have helped?

I thought I was on good terms with my neighbours but am shocked by the meanness of my neighbour this afternoon.

I popped round and asked her politely if she could help me out. My washing machine had broken down leaving me with a load of sodden, soapy, half-washed clothes. I asked if it would be possible to rinse/ spin them in her machine.

She looked at me as if I was strange and ummed and ahhed and I felt so bad that I apologised and said not to worry I'd wash them in the bath.

Just wondering...

Would you have helped a neighbour in this situation?

I'm positive I would. I'm absolutely gobsmacked at her resposne TBH.

OMG so did I!

My neighbours and I help each other out like this all the time. In fact I have been known to chekily ask to use one particular neighbour's tumbledrier if mine (I have a washer/drier) is in use, and the weather is too foul to attempt to get anything dry.

And we swap tea, cakes, and they dropped food packages round when I had DD1 and DTs. Sounds like I live in some lovely area doesn't it, but I think its just this little bit of my road.

I would trust most of my neighbours with my keys and children, if necessary, and pne neoghbour fed my cat whilst on holiday, and did my washing up to boot!

Am sad that your neighbour seemed to be reluctant, she doesn't have a meth lab in her kitchen or something?!

I would have taken the washing, spun it, dried it and given it back. I wouldn't have ironed it, though thats because I dont do my own ironing

We have a good relationship with our new neighbour; we let them come into the back garden to borrow our lawnmower, we mow each others lawns, put each others bins out, and more often than not, they return our keys that dh has left hanging in the door / dropped on the grass / left in the car

I would do this for my neighbour, even though she is a sourfaced miserable cow.

I would do it for any of my neighbours, except next door as they are horrible antisocial noisy criminals who use my bin.
Actually I'm so nice I probably would hae done it for them as well. But I wouldn't invite them in for tea while I did it like I would anyone else!

me and my neighbours are forever borrowing things, sugar, eggs, plasters, juice anything really. She was in feeding my cats while we were away and she even borrowed my footpump for her bike
