Help how do I get the wee smell out of carpet and rug??????

It stinks, Dh said he'd cleaned it up properly but clearly he hasn't ( I know why did I trust that he had) as it reeks. So any top tips? Thr ug is wool i think and i am guuted as we bought it with the vouchers from our wedding so wasn't cheap

PS think i am the only glad person in the uk that it is not sunny as I'm sure the smell would be worst if it were hot

Get some washing liquid and hot water, whisk to make foam - use the foam only and spread it over the stain - if you can't see the stain put it all over. Wait half an hour till the foam appears to disappear. Use a dry clean towel to press down to remove the residue. White towels are best so you can see the muck come out. Change towel often.

You may need to do this three times to remove the wee depending on how long it's been there.

When this has been done, get some fabric conditioner, mix it at a 1 in 20 solution with water, put in spray bottle and spray over the rug.

Would Bicarb of Soda work ? I know its brilliant at getting rid of vomit smells but not sure about wee. Might be worth a go though .....

Have just put some bicarb down as can keep DD in her playpen for a bit whilst it works and then hoover up.

Will try yours choc when she goes for nap if the bicarb hasn't worked.

Am so mad as we only have the living room and the kitchen and don't allow DD into the kitchen so am stuck in a smelly room with a 16 mth old

Urgh - yes I know the feeling, am potty training DD - along with pants I bought a carpet shampooer. I have used it 26 times so far and we are on day six

Hahaha! I just logged on to start this exact thread! I read in a house cleaning tips book that you can get stuff from a pet shop as urine is a protein-based stain, therefore you need protein-based stuff to clean it off. However, thanks to wmmc for the tip that doesn't require spending extra money!

Also with protein stains make sure you only ever use cold water (foam stays cold and so should be fine as per wmmc's tip, which I will try today).

How long do you thin the bicar needs?

I recommend a solution of biological washing powder. DS threw up on our carpet after drinking milk. The smell was unbelieveable and that's what shifted it.

Ah but you see, you may not be able to see the stain but it is the presence of urine which is the problem not the smell, the smell is a side effect of the urea.

Incidentally urea is very good at softening leather and has many other useful purposes.

Am going to try the foam one now, so its all on and DD is getting a bit fed up in her play pen now

There's not really anything coming back out when i do the towel bit, maybe i didn't use enough foam??

Right have tried advice on here, and have now been and bought some pet stain and odour remover. Heres hoping it doesn't knacker the rug will try on the carept b it first i think and keep fingers crossed.

I've been using the pet stuff and have left it on for the required time and then done it again as it is now a couple of days old and I think it may have worked.

Have done it on the rug, its just so thick, I sprayed both sides to try and get it worked through.

hi, i have used white vinegar for getting rid of the smell of cats urine on carpet. it might work the same.

GReat tip janett - I'll try it. We bought stuff from the pet shop but it's such a hassle to use as it's chemical and you can't use it around kids, have to leave it to soak in then dry then sponge it off then gaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! If I had two living rooms it would be fine. But I don't. So fingers crossed vinegar does the trick!

Rug Doctor from Homebase. Our house still stinks but at least it's from our dog, not our carpets.

Rug doc was useless on it. But did do rest of living room carpet!

Has now been sent to a proper cleaner.

I just used it along with a vanish stick to get wee smell fro a child's mattress.

Right! I've got it.

1. Tackle the stain AS SOON AS it happens. If not, you're screwed.
2. Wipe/ rinse generously with plain, COLD water (warm water will 'cook' it into the carpet mmm...yum!).
3. Spray white vinegar into it.

That's it! Cheap and effective.
