Removing limescale from stainless steel kettle?

My kettle has limescale buildup around the lid and spout and I want to remove it with something that won't scratch the stainless steel but all the limescale removers I have seen say not to use on stainless steel.

Any suggestions?

Don't think it will harm stainless steel (my sink survives at least....)
Try using vinegar - it is great for descaling the inside of kettles ...fill it with water, boil it and add a good splosh of vinegar...leave overnight and rinse....(don't try and boil with the vinegar in though ...I did this by accident and it boiled over...)
Guess the vinegar in the steam might loosen the scale around the top overwise try just wiping it with vinegar.

Second the vinegar suggestion. For the spout soak a piece of kitchen paper in it and wrap/stuff the spout overnight. Magic stuff (though scary to think we put it on chips...)
