Please help me sort out my bloody toilet

Okay, I clean my toilet regularly:

antibacterial wipes (round seat flush etc)
flushable toilet duck cleaner round bowl
bleach every few days (bad I know)

Give it a good scrub with toilet brush also but there are slight yellow stains around the rim bit.

Now, I have tried to clean these on a number of occasions with bleach & toilet brush etc and they won't come off! I have just attacked them with more bleach & a toothbrush (chucked out after of course )

What can I do to get rid of these stains? I am worried that visitors will think they are , ahem poo . Any fab products to get rid of these stains? What are they?

TIA.

Harpic power plus.

Before DP moved in with me we had to get his flat ready for tenants. He had been living there with two lodgers, both male, and I don't think any of them had ever cleaned the loo.

I won't go into it anymore suffice to say that the Harpic worked a treat.

Or Grotbuster. Think its by Harpic or Domestos?

It's fab at removing all things icky.

Of failing that, Caustic (sp?) Soda.

SemperEadem · 11/06/2009 11:57

I've used harpic power plus on limescale and tis fab but not sure what these stains are - yak? Will give it a bash again tho.

Yep harpic power plus chuck it on leave it 4 an hour + clean, i swear by it, i will never use anything else, my toilet is sparkly clean all the time, also got harpic power plus rim block, keeps it fresh n clean every flush and it makes ur bathroom smell clean all the time.

Just be a little cautious using caustic soda. The fumes are horrendous. Open windows and cover your mouth. (Staff toilet at work blockage issue - I am still traumatised!)

Harpic power plus smells of wee! It's horrid!

PigletJohn · 23/02/2012 17:38

they are probably old limescale that's got stained. Bleach won't remove them but an acid cleaner should, including a paste of Citic Acid powder if you have it. acids like vinegar and coca-cola will remove limescale, but they may leave their own colour behind when they soak in.

I don't think caustic soda will remove limescale as it is not acidic.

I have sometimes resorted to Barkeepers Friend and a green nylon pan-scourer for obstinate limescale. Sometimes the glaze itself is damaged and roughened and this is not fixable.

BoffinMum · 23/02/2012 17:40

Scrape it off with a razor blade. Seriously!

I heart PigletJohn. He knows everything. Grin

B&Q do an amazing limescale remover, industrial strength but it will shift anything. Used it on a loo that had 10yrs of limescale which we thought we'd have to rip out, left it overnight & it was good as new. Very fumey, I'd try & do it when you're out. Can't remember the name but it was V good.

BoffinMum · 23/02/2012 18:07

Hagesan Blue is another option. Or strong formic acid.

Pascha · 23/02/2012 18:08

A whole tube of denture cleaning tablets chucked down and left overnight did a stunning job on my toilet when we moved in years ago. That was very brown and nasty and yak.

No idea whats in it though.

Pinot · 23/02/2012 19:17

Bicarb of soda down the bog works for under water scumminess. (same idea as pascha steradents)

White vinegar round the bowl works well.

Lidl do an ace limescale remover too.

PigletJohn · 23/02/2012 20:26

SemperEadem slight yellow stains around the rim bit

So none of the under-the-water cleaners will help.

pengymum · 23/02/2012 22:51

We use the Harpic Power Plus, leave and scrub. But sometimes if we have run out, I give the rim a squirt with the Dettox Mould and Mildew remover and it works too! Though ours is never that bad as we are quite liberal with the Harpic!

Also put the Harpic tablets in overnight every now and then, to keep the limescale at bay.

White vinegar will work as well to dissolve limescale and remove yakky stains. And cheaper!
