What is the average amount of loads in a washing machine per week

This morning my new washing machine arrived after i'd spun the last one into the ground. So I was wondering how much washing do you do a week? what is the average? Does anyone know how many washes a washing machine should do on average?

I was going to try and work out how long i'm going to get to keep this machine.

I think I do about 20-25 wash loads a week.

if you are doing 20 washes a week you should be washing at least 100kg of clothes!

Most machines will wash 5kg and many quite a bit more)

I suggest you fill your machine more and was less and save the environment!

at work i do all the kids washing in 3 washes a week (thats all their clothes / bedding / towels / unforms / swim stuff etc for 2 children)

the parenst probably do abotu 3 washes as well... bedding / dark / lights (I normally put their whites i with my charges white shirts)

so 6 washes for a family of 4...

me (single)... i ue my machine once or twice a week.... probably 6 loads a month!

i cant see how its possible to do 25 loads a week!

I have a 7kg drum machine and usually wash 3 loads 4-5 days each week. I only separate washes into lights/darks/nappies/towels and the machine is always full. DS1 has been potty training for what feels like forever and creates a load himself almost every day, then there is all the wet bedding when his disposable nappy leaks....

I know we wash too much but I can't see how we could cut down without ridding ourselves of the children.

I do around ten washes a week but tbh I thought that was ridiculously high - I can't believe you're doing 25!

That's for me, dh and a one-year-old. We're quite active and that includes all our sports clothes. My dh only tends to use his towels once or twice (despite my nagging), I use my towels for three or four days, and I change the beds every other week.

6 loads a week here - maximum

I wash our sheets and duvets once a month, fine for us

i do about 15-20 loads a week.

There are 7 of us, 2 adults, 5 dc's.

bellavita · 26/05/2009 09:03

It feels like I do about 25 a week, but probably more like 10.

Although, I had five different loads to do last night as we had been away since Saturday and I did have a basketful before we left.

I had 1 x light, 2 x dark (too much for one load), 1 x swimming gear, 1 x delicates. I have just put the 3rd load in now.

I was recently without a washing machine for 8 days and when the new one arrived I had 9 loads of laundry to get through, but we had had visitors so there were extra sheets and towels, I was a bit behind anyway from the previous week, and I also do washable nappies.

I think I typically do 2-3 x washable nappies per week, 1 x whites, 1 x darks, 1 x coloureds. And then sheets and towels every other week. So 5-7 depending on the week.

Just a few thoughts: can your table cloth not go in with sheets? Surely you don't need separate washes for each kids' bedding? Can't cycling gear go in with work clothes and/or bedding (it's usually quite lightweight isn't it?) Just wash everything on 40, then you can just sort by colour rather than by colour and type.

I do between 5 and 7 loads per week.

for 2 adults and 2 young dc's. Can't believe the 20-25 washes my god your must be tied to the machine!!!!

DentArthurDent · 26/05/2009 09:13

I do about 12 loads a week - 2 adults and 3 dc, one who is 7 weeks old and generates loads of washing

Yikes!

Family of 5 and I only wash once a week.

1 x coloured towels
1 x white towels (if enough for 1 full load)
2/3 x darks depending on bedding
1 x whites
1 x delicates

all kit/uniforms fit in with the above.

Life's too short to be chained to the laundry!

2 loads a week for 3 of us. 3 loads when I do bedding (every other week or so).

We do have a top loader though, I think they fit more in.

I'll tell you the one that drives me mad: bright yellow school shirts!

ONly one child is at that school. He wears three shirts a week. We have NOTHING else that (awful, acid) colour, and they seems to pick up bits of anything else I bung them in with.

And breathe....

[L tries to duck the question of how often we run the washer)
