Clarks Shoes fallen apart after one day (yes one day!!) advice urgently needed - help

Hi. Having faithfully only clad DS and DD in Clarks shoes since birth. I brought DS a new pair of school shoes on Sat and he has come home tonight after ONE days wear with a big chunk coming off. I will take them back asap and normally would write this off as a one off but his previous pair of Clarks disintegrated after 6 weeks which I was a bit however what has worried me is that 3 of his school friends Mums have also commented they have had problems wth Clarks shoes falling apart...... So firstly if you don't buy Clarks what else do you buy ?? can anyone suggest other brands to me and secondly am I just being unlucky or has that happened to anyones else in which case I will seriously consider a brand swap.. if there is one out there. Advice welcome. Thanks

Jules the good news is you will get your money back no problem.

I took my dds clarks shoes back after 6 weeks as the inner heel collapsed around the wee cavity they put a dolly in. They gave me a full refund.

I go to brantano and usually get hushpuppies or any old brand they sell.

No advice, but I think if you search under Clarks shoes, I have a feeling that others have come across this problem on Mn before

I prefer Startrite to Clarks, but not always as easy to buy as Clarks.

tigerdriver · 18/05/2009 23:03

yes, don't think you will have a problem but try to find Startrite if you can, much better quality. They also do good school trainers, in proper sizes without flashing bits.

I got DS some StartRite shoes during the Easter holidays and they are starting to come apart. Do you think I will get anywhere if I take them back where I got them from? I don't have proof of purchase any more and realise the scuffing is just what happens with a 5 year old boy, but parts coming off does seem a bit much.

His last school shoes lasted two terms and were Clarks btw.

I actually took a pair of clarks back after 10 weeks which had split and they gave me an exchange with no argument. I did feel a bit cheeky going in but I have to say I don't think the quality is great. They weren't even his only pair. He's wearing the replacements at the moment but I think we will shop around next time. Though I can't argue with their customer service with regards the shoes I took back!

I should always take back unless a major hassle to get there as IME whatever the legal position, shops want your business and won't say no, and of course you could prove purchase by making them go through their records.

Bits falling off after, what, four or five weeks, seems a bit rich. They ought to replace if not refund (I bet they replace but at least will see you through to the summer hols).

Kids shoes are such a rip off, though - they are all £35 or so, for poor quality and short shelf life.

Thanks for your advice. I took the shoes back today and no quibbles they gave me the moneyt back however in the interim I had to go to Tescos and buy a pair of black plastic shoes there that DS loves.. typical but only cost £4.50 .. Its half term next week so will go to Startrite and try their shoes. Thanks all.

result!
I like the fact ds loves the plastic ones!

I have found Geox really good. I have 2 DS who are fairly hard on shoes. I spent a fortune on Ecco shoes before and they were in rags after a week. I have never had a real prob with Clarks.
