Is it worth Scotchguarding my new carpet?

Anyone any experience as I imagine it's not cheap...?

the carpet in the sitting room in the house we have lived in for nearly 5 years had clearly been scotchguarded by the previous owners. It is truly amazing. spills just sit on the surface waiting to be mopped up. nothing seems to stain it. i didnt pay for it but i do swear i will put it on any new carpet in a room where spills or stains are possible.
