Oven cleaning & general cleaning: get the professionals in or DIY?

Am a bit confused as to whether oven / general cleaning service is worth it?

Just bought our first home which at the mo is a building site. The flat we rented has to be given back in 3 weeks. It needs a total scrub from head to toe and the oven hasn't been cleaned properly for well over 9 months.

WWYD? Get professionals into clean the overn (and maybe the rest of the flat) so you can spend as much time as poss getting new house ready. Or just clean flat yourself?

We don't have stacks of money but think it might be cost effective if it means the new house is ready sooner IYSWIM? Realistically how long would it take to clean a 1 bed flat to showroom pristine if we did it ourselves? I'm thinking 10 hours?

Does anyone have rough costs for a team of cleaners? I'm in Bristol. The bathroom is all tiles inc floor, the kitchen inside cupboards etc will all need cleaning, the filers of the extractor, EVERYTHING needs doing .

Am worried we'd fork out the money and the service would be rubbish and I'd have to do it myself anyway!

Anyone got a cleaning fairy and a money tree they want to lend me?

professionals for the oven as it's not worth the risk of breathing in all those chemicals ansd trying to clean it yourself etc. OvenU will clean your extractor too (Chck with yhe one in your area though - some don't )

and i'd do the rest myself. If i lived nearer i'd come and help you but i live hours away.

Hope it all goes okay

Thanks loving the rain. I put a post up on gumtree asking for a cleaner and the quotes have ranged from £7-£20 per hour. Some people think it'd take 4 hours others think 12 hours!

I am thinking it should take 4-5 hours, do you think that sounds right? I looked at ovenu but there isn't one in my area. Do you know of any others? What ovenpride like? I'm worried it will damage the oven!

I think that probably does sound about right, maybe even quicker if things are packed away

There's another company called oven clean ovenclean.com/ but they're not in my area so not sure how good they are.

The flat will be completely empty, so yup hopefully that will speed things up. Tried ovenclean and again not in my area! Is oven pride a total no no? I'm a bit scared tbh.

What about asking the agency if they can recommend anyone?

jb707 · 18/05/2009 17:06

Hi, why not ask a local rental agent if they could recomend a good contract cleaner. We just had a large 2 bedroom house cleaned for £120 exc. windows. They did an quote visit 1st! Cooker and loo were very dirty, the rest was not to bad.

Is there an Oven Sheen franchise in your area? I used them for the first time last week and am very pleased with the job. £49.

Hi we used OvenGleam (www.ovengleam.com) for our oven and Time For You Domestic Cleaning (www.timeforyou.co.uk) for my house cleaning when I moved house. In fact they were both so good that I've had my oven cleaned 6 monthly since and Time For You provide a cleaner on a weekly basis. Prices are ok I think - about £60 for my double oven to be cleaned and £15 per week for a 2 hour house clean. Not sure where you live but I think OvenGleam cover the South-West of UK and Time For You is national company.

ok what's with all the threads on oven cleaning?

paranoidmother · 20/05/2009 16:04

If you don't fancy getting someone in to clean your oven Lakeland do a good cleaning kit here they also do a tray cleaning tub as well.
