Washing machine for dry clean only rug

DD has a small circular woollen rug/carpet in her room from Next which says dry clean only, Can I pop it in the washing machine? Would it really be so bad in a delicate cycle?

I never take things to the dry cleaners and this is just a little bedroom carpet?

So would it be ok?

I dont know BUT I just did this with a big shaggy Ikea rug. Did it in a short/cool/handwash cycle and it has been fine. I tend to risk these things - same with dry clean only clothes!

I did this with small circular rug from Ikea (had little footprints on it). Turns out the spiral was formed with glue which I washed away and opened the machine to find a big old ball of green wool.

I've done it a couple of time with "dry clean" only cotton rugs from Laura Ashley. One time worked fine, the second time the edges of the rug all unravelled in the wash and I had to throw it.

I guess it depends how much the rug is worth to you. I think the LA rugs were about £40 but it would cost nearly that to have them cleaned at Johnsons- (my local branch sends rugs away to get them cleaned and it is expensive). It was worth the risk to me in this case and I knew I could get a replacement at LA if it went wrong.

Alternatively, Lakeland does a dry cleaning kit for using at home in the tumble dryer which I've seen praised in a few magazines. I think the brand is Hegarty and costs about £8.

It will go curly!!!!!!

done and washed....

hmmmmmmm.......

Not as flat as it once was (but hoping lots of walking on will cure this).

Also seems to be floppy and shedding quite a bit now (had to run washing machine empty to clean the inside of wool fluff)

Taking ages to dry too! (has been on the line drying and now on radiator)

Oh well, could not afford to get it done professionally and was about £40 originally....will buy a much cheaper washable one if totally ruined...
