i asked this the other day, and it seems not, sorry
apparantly you shouldnt use fabric softener on them though, but then do you do a seperate wash for towels then?

The only thing I can suggest is a very vigorous shake when they come out of the washing machine - it works for my nappies!

I have recently used a line-dried towel and it was like torture!! I'm sure it was great for removing dead skin but not a nice way to start my morning!!

Do you have a TD that you're trying not to use or don't have one at all? If it's the former, I only put my towels in the TD for about 30 mins then dry them on an airer or out in the garden and they are lovely and soft that way.

i'm sure i've heard that a bit of vinegar in the conditioner part helps, but i've never tried it myself. perhaps post in the nappies section to ask women how they get their terry nappies soft.

if you do have a td then i second mogs - even 10 mins can fluff them up nicely.

My mum says ironing them helps.
Her washing machine doesn't like fabric conditioner for some reason.
However a friend of mine will not tumble her towels because she likes them rough.

We have a washer dryer that isn't very effective at drying - it might be perfect for just fluffing up towels though! I hadn't realised that it should be done before they're dried though

I do tend to wash them separately without conditioner so will carry on with that.

Thanks.

I don't know if it's supposed to be done that way but my drier is getting a bit old now and doesn't seem to dry as well as it used to. I noticed that towels came out really damp after an hour in there so would have to be hung out aswell so now I just put them in for half an hour to get the fluffy-ness started!! I don't use fabric softener in the wash either.

Flamestorm · 25/04/2009 13:44

I use softener (about half the recommended amount) terrible person and line dry

BirdyArms · 25/04/2009 13:52

I'm sure that I read in the white company catalogue that you can put a little fabric softener in every other wash so that they are soft but it doesn't build up and stop them being absorbent. I don;t usually though, I try to catch them when they are almost dry and put them in the dryer for 30 mins.

MrsJamin · 25/04/2009 18:57

Bold 2 in 1 can be used on towels, I have used it ever since going to cloth nappies, as the conditioner in it doesn't affect absorbancy. Our towels come out pretty nice in it.

I asked that question here a few years back, and someone called me a stepford wife. Grr!

As for advice, I only remembered the fabric softener (don't use) and shake very hard after wash .. so nothing new to add here. Oh, and something too about eco ball ..
