nody, thats why I linked to the Ancient wisdom ones...any of theirs I tried so far have smelt great.
I agree some can smell artificially awful

I'm not sure what type mine were tbh they were in a plain little bag and smelled terrible!A clean house is enough fake smells are dreadful normally Jo malone candles are nice at night!

fulltimeworkingmum · 04/05/2009 21:37

Beeswax furniture polish (the type you rub on not spray on)

I love to have a fresh smelling house - and do the following to maintain:

Air the rooms (open bedrooms windows every day) in all weathers!

Spritz bedlinen with lavender scented water spray when ironing

Use Lavender or Beeswax polish...

Fresh flowers - scented ones

Hang freshly washed linen on line or old fashioned airer to dry (smells lovely)

I hate all those harsh stinky abrasive chemicals...and do admit to bleach in loos....

marymungoandmidge · 04/05/2009 21:53

But then, I am anal !!!!

Noddy - love Jo Malone candles...can't go wrong with classier scented products as usually all natural - also like some White Company scents...they look good too.

Yankee candle wax tarts work for me

alicecrail · 06/05/2009 08:20

What are wax tarts?

I have a similar problem as I have to shut my dogs in the front door porch (bark and sit on sofas if left with the run of the house) when I go out. Do when I come back I get an instant whack of two long haired dogs, two beds and two lots of stinky confined breath. Ick.

I hate all air fresheners and am convinced they will do lasting damage (mostly cos they will ) so I am starting to wash the beds weekly, clip the dogs more often and keep open tubs of baking soda hidden around the porch. I will let you know if any of the above work.....

i buy cheap spray bottles 99p from supermarket - fill with warm water - add essential oil [ 100% good quality ] and spray everywhere - on the furniture, soft furnishings , air, curtains etc.
I use the oil according to the season.
Mandarin at Christmas
Florals in the summer - lavender, grapefruit
When coughs and flus are around I use tea tree, euculiptus, lavender as they are anti viral
It is totally natural - no chemicals and really cheap.
I have a dog and cats and it seems to work when I remember to do it
A bottle of 100% lavender essential oil is under five pounds
A lovely book to read is the Fragrant Pharmacy which gives all the different blends

i use the febreze plug in air freshener in the hall it is not overpowering or too sickly rest of the house i open windows if at all possible i have husband 2 teenage sons and 5 cats and when i mention this most people look horrified at cats i presume/hope ) i can imagin them thinking my home must be smelly and full of cat ornaments ets lol it actually has a lot of white in it washable covers etc and it makes it airy and fresh looking also love fresh flowers tx maxx sells lovely scented candles that are quite posh and cheap

bodyshop do an oil called line-dried linen (or something like) and it is gorgeous - clean without being clinical. i love it.

lighting the candle in my oil burner after a long day and putting some of that in it is a nice way to signal the end of my day (along with the glass of white in my other hand, of course)
