so much so that it's coming up the plug hole into the sink and leaking down the front of it from the drawer??

I only put a normal amount of powder in........it's supposedly already done it's rinse - but it's just white in there.........

Do you have a dishwasher/tumble dryer/cat/dog? My instinct would be to check all of those first!

I had the same problem with foam in my washing machine. There was so much, that the water couln't escape down the standpipe, meaning it spilled over onto the floor. I was doing 3 extra rinsies after each wash. Then I discovered Simply (an environmentally friendly detergent) creating hardly any foam. It's brilliant! In an area where there is soft water, excessive foam is often created, but using Simply has done the trick. People think that seeing froth on the washer door means it's giving a good wash, but my wash loads are just as clean as before I discovered Simply. I have a top-of-the-range machine and was considering changing it! I buy Simply from my local Tesco supermarket, but am not sure if other stores sell it because it is not so well known.

This happened to me and the engineer I called said it could be caused by a lump of powder clumping together but it never did it again.Confused

this happened to us once as well, turns out DH had bought powder for a top loader and we had a front loader!!! Didn't realise at the time that it would make any difference Blush

Well, Simply works for me! My washing doesn't smell afterwards, even the stuff like towels that I don't use fabric softener on. But I do a hot wash, empty, once a month to keep my washer fresh. By the way, this isn't spam, I discovered Simply when I was going through all brands of detergents that I could get, in an effort to find one that didn't cause the emptying water to overflow onto my floor. My advice is to try it, I was prepared to try anything.
