Want a rotary washing line but no lawn - any ideas?

Just wondered if anyone had come up with a solution to using a rotary washing line where there's no lawn in which to put the soil spear you would normally use? I do actually have a lawn but it's a fab artificial one and I don't want to make a hole in it with a soil spear. I'm thinking maybe one of those heavy, iron bases that you would normally use with a patio table parasol/umbrella..?

You can get rotary ones that are attached to a wall -I've seen them linked on here before now but can't remember who makes them.

Lakeland sell them, I think - will look...

here you go, heres an example

Actually that looks like a good idea as 4yo DS currently likes tying to climb and pole dance round mine -a wall mounted one would stop him

geekgirl · 21/04/2009 12:43

I've got a wall-mounted one... Brabantia Wall Fix it's called. Don't get it from Lakeland, you can buy it much cheaper elsewhere.

Am very pleased with it, you can hang two loads of washing and it's very sturdy.

I used to live in a flat, and had a roof garden terrace,my landlord cemented one into a pot!
Worked really well.

It had to be a heavy stone pot though otherwise it tips.

Alternatively,my DH drilled a big hole in our patio and I used to put the base in that,as we had an 80ft garden, and didn't always want to go traipsing up it.

Hmm - not quite rotary, though it looks like it - here (and £££ too).

I suspect even a really heavy base would tip over, unless you only had very light things on the line.

My neighbours have one on a stand that comes as part of it. Not sure how stable it would be in strong winds though.

Thanks very much everyone - very helpful!

When we had a path laid we got the builders to sink a hole for the rotary drier. It has a lid so it doesn't get full of sludge in the winter. When we're not using it we put the dryer in the shed.

I saw one in one of dps builders magazines that is attached to the wall. You fold out the stalk horizontally then the rest unfolds like an umbrella. Blardy expensive but I think I'd get one rather than have a rotary in the middle of my teeny back yard.

I'm an old fashioned gal I have 3 washing lines zig zagging across and back.

Flibbertyjibbet · 22/04/2009 11:58

norbert got there first

and with a link

I used a small car tyre, put a bit of plywood on the bottom and filled it with concrete mix, inserting a hollow tube in the middle before it set.

I can move it around the garden to follow th sun. Its very stable and I hang loads of washing on it.

benbon · 25/04/2009 16:32

i have mine in a parasol base. then i put a heavy brick on it..works fine. then i can move it around the garden

BigBellasBeerBelly · 25/04/2009 16:37

I use the world renowned benbon method with mine
