Mould on washing machine seal

HarlotOTara · 19/04/2009 09:21

I have a nice dark mould growing on the washing machine seal and wiping doesn't get it off. Does anyone know how to remove this without damaging the rubber - is it rubber ?

It is a fairly new seal too.

Many thanks

this happened to me too and I posted on here. The advice given to me was to use Bio powder not non bio and to put it on a hot wash cycle once a week without any clothes in. Its taken some of the mould away but I still see it.
Pain in the neck though isn't it

Thanks for that - I wonder if put some bio-powder/liquid on the seal for a while it would help, and yes it is a pain

Oh and avoid using liquid detergent.
(I still use fabric softener though)

I sprayed the seal with CIf and it still didn't come off

My dispenser drawer is v. black/mouldy(?) Is this caused by liquid detergent then, that's all I use??

You should be able to pull that out and detach from the machine to clean it.

mummyflood · 22/04/2009 08:21

I do clean it on a regular basis, but the black builds up at a rate of knots, never had this before with previous machines but used to use powder. Just wondered if it was something in the liquid causing it.

(sorry for thread hijack!!)

waitingforgodot · 22/04/2009 13:42

yes I would reckon so as the liquid isn't getting time to dry out so its going all slimy. Change back to powder and see what happens!

You need to get Dr. Beckmann Service-It, it will sort your washing machine right out, giveing it a full MOT and gets rid of all mould etc...

MrsTittleMouse · 24/04/2009 15:41

I bleach it - then rinse reaaly thoroughly (i.e. a hot wash with no clothes) - then do a whites wash next, just in case.

apparently according to my good housekeeping guide to laundry products, liquid doesn't contain laundry bleach and therefore doesn't stop the build up of bacteria in the machine. Powders do and so help to reduce the amount of bacteria therefore less can grow on it.

Lorndog,

Does the Dr. Beckman stuff clean the seal or just the detergent drawer?
