If you like me have been trying to clean those horrible mouldy bits that get under your bathmats for years, and have exhausted washing machine at varying temperatures, soaked in bleach and all manner of household cleaners, stop there
Use sodium bicarbonate, about 100g in the wash-40degrees with the soap powder and then add vinegar in the rinse cycle and voila, sparkling clean(well needed a tiny wipe with a dry cloth to remove 2-3 bits)
Thankyou [bows to applause]

Now add your top tip

Anyone got a tip for removing the black mould from your silicon seal around the shower and bath? I did buy some fab stuff from Lakeland but it's a bit pricey.

Leave Darrell alone you nasty girls - her top tip is great and you will find yourselves thanking her one day

Hey i was just being cheeky, felt suitably ashamed when admonished,

I just use bleach and old toothbrush for edge of bath, Or soda crystals.

DarrellRivers · 08/04/2009 20:17

What about trying bicarbonate of soda plus vinegar?
Leave it for a bit and then rinse away
Worth a try

I'm going to try the bicarb and vinegar tomorrow and if that doesn't work then the Grot Buster (what a fab name!) it is.

I love these top tips threads! [saddo emoticon]

Re the bathmat issue. Imo you need to be proactive - Prevention is Better than Cure and all that.

i.e. start off with a clean sparkling bath mat. Put it in the wash at least every 2-3 weeks. Preferably a 60 but a 40 will do. If you use reusable nappies then shove it in the wash with them.

DO NOT wait until it gets a bit skanky/mouldy. Wash it regularly even if it looks clean.

Just wanted to let you all know that I tried Grot Buster today, as Asda had in on special for £1 - it is utterly amazing! Cleaned my mouldy silicon grout brilliantly - far better than the expensive stuff from Lakeland.

Thanks for your tip, Herbie!
