Ok, so this may seem random but, how do you remove . . . .

the sticky stuff they use to stick labels to glass jars!!

I could do with a couple without the sticky stuff (purely for aesthetic reasons), to put stuff into on the side (like random hair bobbles that keep cropping up, hair clips & other stuff), so it doesn't look too untidy.

No amount of soaking in hot water or hot soapy water is helping! Any ideas?

Nail varnish remover, or white spirit.

gingerninja · 07/04/2009 20:22

nail varnish remover or acetone (I think you can buy it from a chemist)

Othersideofthechannel · 07/04/2009 20:23

Alcohol / nail varnish remover

Nontoxic · 07/04/2009 20:23

Or white vinegar, or Vaseline.

Flamesparrow · 07/04/2009 20:24

sticky stuff remover from lakeland

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 07/04/2009 20:24

Never tried it, but I believe WD40 will do the job.

Some glues dissolve when they get very hot - so try putting them in oven at high temp and then letting them cool down a bit before scraping off.

Although have just seen *flamesparrow's recommendation. Marvelous - more to buy from lakeland.

lucysmam · 07/04/2009 20:37

wow! I had no idea there were so many ways (& I also wonder what you all spend your time doing to know that )

I'll try nail polish remover & white vinegar since I actually have those in the house, save me buying anything else.

Thanks ladies, hopefully my kitchen side will not look so much of a cluttered mess by tomorrow evening

Astonish oven and cookware cleaning paste (89p in Wilkinsons) or any paste type thing, I believe Tesco have their 'naturals' range cleaning putty reduced at the moment will sort that out very easily.

lucysmam · 07/04/2009 21:13

I have some Astonish in as well, will try those out in the morning! Thanks for the tips

Lighter fuel will work very well.......

Joe1977 · 08/04/2009 10:12

Furniture polish (Mr Sheen or similar) and a good rub.

TrillianEAstraEgg · 08/04/2009 10:15

It sounds like what you need is not a jar but a booble plate!

notsoteenagemum · 08/04/2009 10:28

rofl at booble plate and bobble plate

lucysmam, I find the dishwasher is quite good at removing the sticky stuff.
Good idea about the jars, I use clean bean tins as pen holders, wierdly dh puts it all in the fruit bowl.

lucysmam · 08/04/2009 12:06

Wow! A booble plate

I can't believe there are 18 pages to that! & I was just giggling at the first. A plate is a bad idea, it would collect more junk! My aim is to have a junk free kitchen
