Tempered glass patio tables - how likely to shatter?!

I've heard a few things about these tables shattering - is that very likely (especially with small kids around)? Anybody got any experience/knowledge of this?

I have one with a frosted glass top (think that's tempered glass -from sainsburys/homebase 3 years ago)set into grey metal frame so the edges of the glass are not showing.Gets left out all winter. My mad spaniel has a habit of jumping onto it with stones and tossing them up into the air! Amazingly it has not scratched/chipped.
