blu tac

janeite · 28/03/2009 16:10

Really? Do I make a blu-tac snake shape and then wriggle it around? Cool!

Geepers · 28/03/2009 16:11

use the hoover.

Nontoxic · 28/03/2009 16:12

You can get cans of air from Staples to clean it. Or use a damp cloth with white vinegar solution.

Hassled · 28/03/2009 16:12

Holding it upside down, unplugged, and giving it a vigorous brush with a child's paintbrush will dislodge some crumbs etc. But be careful not to actually push the crumbs further under the keys.

You could reconstruct at least 2 slices of toast from the contents of my keyboard at the moment.

janeite · 28/03/2009 17:02

No crumbs here, just dust.

dishwasher

abbierhodes · 28/03/2009 19:05

PMSL sheeta!!!

janeite · 28/03/2009 19:42

Lo. If I HAD a dishwasher I may well be tempted to try it!

FAQinglovely · 28/03/2009 19:48

depends - there may be a little clip(s) on the side of it, or underneath so you can take the top of the keyboard off. If this is the case you'll find that the top of the keyboard will lift off leaving the actually keys in place so you can clean round them easily.

IF YOU TRY THIS AND THE ACTUAL KEYS START LIFTING UP WITH THE TOP OF THE KEYBOARD DON'T CONTINUE.

janeite · 28/03/2009 20:44

No clips - it is very, very old.

feather duster

scrooged · 28/03/2009 20:47

Try a pipe cleaner, this will do the job. Just be careful, the ends are sharp.

janeite · 28/03/2009 20:48

Aha - pipe cleaner! Would a cotton wool bud work too?

OP posts:
scrooged · 28/03/2009 20:50

No, too thick. Pipe cleaners do a fab job, they are small and bendy enough to get under the keys.

janeite · 28/03/2009 21:01

I have some pipe cleaners, so will try. But the cotton wool buds I have are tiny.

OP posts:
scrooged · 28/03/2009 21:03

Yes but pipe cleaners are really bendy so get into all the bits, cotton buds are on hard sticks. Maybe the combination of the two?

janeite · 28/03/2009 21:05

Sounds like a ver pleasant way of spending Sunday morning!

Thanks all!

scrooged · 28/03/2009 21:08

It's really therapeutic. Honest!

Goober · 28/03/2009 21:09

I use a new paintbrush. Also use it on remote controls.

ABetaDad · 28/03/2009 21:11

Make sure you clean your mouse as well while you are at it!

The number of times I 'mended' a colleagues computer by unscrewing the plate under the mouse, dropping the ball out and scraping the caked on muck off the three little wheels.

Very satisfing though giving a computer mouse a good clean. Its almost magical.

janeite · 28/03/2009 21:37

Lol - okay, am looking forward to it!

OP posts:
nannyL · 29/03/2009 00:13

i turn upside down and shake

then hoover

and then use (non creamy) face clenser (yes face clenser) on a cotton bud to get all the mank off the keys.

it works really well!

Sheeta · 31/03/2009 10:37

heh, not sure it would work with newer ones, but my ex put my keyboard in the dishwasher to clean it once - took all the keys off and put them in the cutlery box

Worked brilliantly actually (and yes, it still worked afterwards)

don't try this at home
